Portsmouth Herald: Ayotte Invites O'Connor to Speak on Portsmouth Naval Shipyard's 'Excellence'

Paul O'Connor, president of the Metal Trades Council at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, is testifying Wednesday at a subcommittee hearing on best practices at shipyards. The hearing is being led by Sen. Kelly Ayotte, who invited O'Connor to speak.

The Readiness and Management Support Subcommittee meeting is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. Wednesday.

O'Connor has worked for 40 years at Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, the first 25 years as a journeyman electrician performing maintenance and modernization work on submarines. For 12 years, he has led the Metal Trades Council, the largest union at the shipyard, representing 2,500 tradesmen and women.

"Portsmouth Naval Shipyard's innovative practices have improved performance and reinforced the shipyard's reputation as the Navy's center of excellence for fast attack submarine maintenance, modernization, and repair. Based on his decades of experience, Paul has played a key role in that effort, and I look forward to hearing his testimony," Ayotte said.
