Nashua Telegraph: Ayotte Voices Support to Renew the Trade Promotion Authority

U.S. Sen. Kelly Ayotte highlighted her support for a bipartisan bill to renew the Trade Promotion Authority during a May 15 tour of Mercury Systems in Hudson and said the measure will help increase American trade and New Hampshire businesses create jobs.

Ayotte, R-N.H., said she heard firsthand how the trade bill would give companies like Mercury Systems, which employs about 170 workers at its 100,000-square-foot location in Hudson, fair and equal access to sell goods and services in new markets.

The legislation expired in 2007 and has not been renewed. The measure provides guidance in pursuing trade agreements and spells out a detailed oversight and consultation process during trade negotiations, according to the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative.

"I fully support renewing Trade Promotion Authority in order to increase American trade and create jobs in New Hampshire, and I'm hopeful the Senate will approve the bill this week," Ayotte said in a statement.

Mercury Systems opened its Lowell Road location in April 2014 with an original workforce of 70 people. The company, which has more than doubled its employment figures, designs and builds defense and commercial electronics including radar, electronic warfare and signals intelligence, and sonar systems.
