U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.) issued the following statement on the Senate's 56-43 vote confirming Loretta Lynch as the next U.S. Attorney General:

"After disgraceful, deplorable delay, Loretta Lynch's approval today gives the nation a top law enforcement officer of superb intellect and integrity. She is not only the nation's first female African American to serve as U.S. Attorney General, but a truly distinguished public servant and legal advocate whose life's ‎work has been fighting for the American people. As the nation's chief enforcer and protector of people's legal rights and obligations, she will be a courageous and strong leader. Having come to know her personally, I deeply admire her extraordinary record of accomplishment and public service. She will be an historic mentor and model for others‎."
