PROCLAMATION
COMMUNITY CORRECTIONS AWARENESS WEEK
JUNE 6-12, 2005
WHEREAS, community-based alternatives to incarceration and traditional sentencing allow offenders to repay the community and successfully complete the mandates of the court; and
WHEREAS, the North Dakota Community Corrections Association provides a comprehensive and statewide association of community corrections programs to supervise court-ordered community service mandates; and
WHEREAS, community corrections programs are located throughout the state to enhance partnerships while providing community-based alternatives to detention; and
WHEREAS, misdemeanor offenders perform their court-ordered community service obligations by working with non-profit organizations, government agencies and the community at large, giving back for the crimes or actions they committed; and
WHEREAS, last year, more than 139,000 hours of community service were provided to non-profit or government agencies throughout the state, with an overall economic benefit of more than $837,000; and
NOW, THEREFORE, as Governor of the State of North Dakota, I do hereby proclaim
June 6-12, 2005, COMMUNITY CORRECTIONS AWARENESS WEEK in the state of North Dakota.
