PROCLAMATION
NORTH DAKOTA TRAILS DAY
JUNE 4, 2005
WHEREAS, interest in outdoor recreational opportunities, including walking, bicycling, hiking, horseback riding and canoeing, is on the rise with North Dakota residents and visitors; and
WHEREAS, North Dakota's trails enhance the quality of life for our citizens, increase tourist activity in the state and provide alternative transportation routes for non-motorized vehicles; and
WHEREAS, Trails Day is an opportunity to increase public awareness of North Dakota's miles of trails and diverse outdoor recreational activities, and promote the importance of a local and national network of trails and greenways; and
WHEREAS, trail activities are enjoyed by people of all ages and abilities, and are an important part of North Dakota's outdoor recreation resources; and
WHEREAS, citizens are encouraged to participate in the many Trails Day activities scheduled across the state and to strengthen their commitment to preserving the natural, scenic and recreational qualities of North Dakota's trails; and
NOW, THEREFORE, as Governor of the State of North Dakota, I do hereby proclaim June 4, 2005, TRAILS DAY in the state of North Dakota.
