PROCLAMATION
AVIATION MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN DAY
MAY 24, 2005

WHEREAS, aviation is an important contributor to the economies of our state and nation, and maintenance technicians are central to the overall safety and success of the industry; and
WHEREAS, Aviation Maintenance Technician Day recognizes aviation mechanics nationwide for their contributions to the maintenance of air travel, making it one of the safest modes of transportation; and
WHEREAS, this day marks the birthday of Charles Taylor, our nation's first aviation technician who earned his place in aviation history when he built the engine that powered the Wright Brothers' first successful flight on December 17, 1903; and
WHEREAS, as we celebrate more than a century of controlled powered flight, we recognize those who pioneered aviation and those who work hard every day to maintain the quality and safety of the industry; and
NOW, THEREFORE, as Governor of the State of North Dakota, I do hereby proclaim May 24, 2005, AVIATION MAINTENANCE TECHNICIAN DAY in the state of North Dakota.
