Ayotte Commemorates National Police Week

U.S. Senator Kelly Ayotte (R-NH) commemorated National Police Week this week by co-sponsoring the 2015 National Police Week Resolution. Ayotte is also welcoming members of New Hampshire law enforcement to Washington, including those visiting our nation's capital to honor fallen Officer Stephen Arkell of the Brentwood Police Department. Ayotte will spend time with New Hampshire law enforcement officers at a special Capitol Hill reception on Wednesday.

"We must always honor the service and sacrifice of those who work to keep our communities safe, and especially those who have given their lives in the line of duty," said Senator Ayotte. "It is my privilege to welcome members of New Hampshire's law enforcement community to Washington for this annual memorial, which holds special significance this year as we honor the life and service of Officer Stephen Arkell."

To commemorate National Police Week, Senator Ayotte co-sponsored the Senate resolution declaring May 10 through May 16, 2015, as National Police Week. The resolution also includes the names of 127 law enforcement officers - including Officer Arkell -- killed in the line of duty during the past year.

Officer Arkell's name was added to the National Law Officers Memorial wall in Washington and will be read aloud with the names of other fallen officers at a candlelight vigil on Wednesday evening. Members of the Brentwood Police Department and members of the Arkell family and close friends, as well as New Hampshire law enforcement personnel from across the state, traveled to Washington this week for National Police Week. Earlier this year, Senator Ayotte ran in the first annual Officer Stephen Arkell Community 5k Race in Brentwood.
