POLICE WEEK
MAY 15-21, 2005

PEACE OFFICERS MEMORIAL DAY
MAY 17, 2005

WHEREAS, the courageous men and women of North Dakota's law enforcement agencies provide a vital public service in safeguarding the rights and freedoms of our citizens; and
WHEREAS, North Dakota's law enforcement officers and personnel wear the uniform and badge with pride and are dedicated to protecting our families, homes and communities;
WHEREAS, North Dakotans are encouraged to recognize law enforcement professionals, past and present, for their dedicated service to our communities, and their faithful devotion to their duty to serve and protect and to put their lives on the line for our safety; and
WHEREAS, throughout this week and especially today on Peace Officers Memorial Day, we honor the memory of those heroes who have fallen in the line of duty and recognize all those who put themselves at risk in the fight against crime, violence and terrorism; and
NOW, THEREFORE, as Governor of the State of North Dakota, I do hereby proclaim May 15-21, 2005, POLICE WEEK and May 17, 2005, PEACE OFFICERS MEMORIAL DAY in the state of North Dakota.
