PROCLAMATION
ARBOR DAY
MAY 6, 2005

WHEREAS, tree planting is an annual tradition in North Dakota, promoting the importance of trees and symbolically representing a commitment to the past, present and future; and
WHEREAS, trees have long-lasting benefits for future generations and make communities an inviting place to live and work; and
WHEREAS, city foresters deserve recognition for their efforts and commitment to planting trees and sustaining forestry programs that benefit our communities; and
WHEREAS, trees improve air quality, control snow deposition, conserve energy, raise property values, enhance water quality, reduce storm-water runoff, provide wildlife habitat, combat soil erosion and add beauty to the landscape; and
WHEREAS, through partnerships, resourcefulness, creativity and initiative, city foresters help to enhance the environment for the benefit of future generations; and
NOW, THEREFORE, as Governor of the State of North Dakota, I do hereby proclaim May 6, 2005, ARBOR DAY in the state of North Dakota.
