Location: Concord, NH

Governor Maggie Hassan issued the following statement after today signing Senate Bill 266, adopting the Uniform Securities Act, bipartisan legislation spurred by the Governor's Live Free and Start Initiative.

"Through our Live Free and Start initiative, business leaders and entrepreneurs from across the state have come together to focus on how we can make it easier for innovative businesses to start up and grow in New Hampshire. As part of their work, they expressed a need to update New Hampshire's securities laws, and my office worked closely with Live Free and Start, legislators from both parties and the Secretary of State's Office to develop the Uniform Securities Act.

"One of Live Free and Start's top priorities, the Uniform Securities Act modernizes our securities regulations with a focus on investor protection and reducing hurdles for businesses trying to raise the capital that they need. This important bipartisan measure will support the growth of innovative businesses, while also fairly balancing the state's interest in regulating securities transactions, creating a synchronized and modern law that reflects current thinking and the way business and entrepreneurs work.

"I thank Live Free and Start, the bill's working group, Senator Little, legislators from both parties, Secretary of State Gardner and the Bureau of Securities Regulation for working with us to develop the Uniform Securities Act, and I am proud to sign this critical bipartisan economic development measure into law."
