Governor Hassan's Statement on Signing SB 55

Governor Maggie Hassan issued the following statement after today signing Senate Bill 55, allowing private employers to establish a policy granting a veterans' preference in employment decisions:

"Our veterans represent the very best of our state's deep talent pool, possessing a wide variety of transferrable skills proven in real-world situations, including leadership, collaboration and the ability to focus on and achieve defined objectives. Their character, experience and work ethic are assets to any employer, and they can help strengthen our civilian workforce and our economy.

"By allowing private employers to establish policies for veterans preference in hiring and promotion decisions, Senate Bill 55 will help boost our economy while building on our efforts to ensure that all of our veterans have access to the employment opportunities that they deserve. I applaud Senator Carson and legislators from both parties for their efforts on this important legislation, and I am honored to sign this bipartisan measure into law."
