Congressman Glenn "GT' Thompson (PA-05) issued the following statement after the House of Representatives passed H.R. 2393, the Country of Origin Labeling (COOL) Amendments Act of 2015:

"This bipartisan vote to repeal the United States' Country of Origin Labeling requirements for beef, pork and poultry ends years of uncertainty and will bring our country back into compliance with our international obligations, while also allowing us to continue sound, beneficial trade partnerships with Mexico and Canada.

If Congressional action is not taken retaliatory sanctions brought on by each country will cost our economy billions in lost economic activity, making U.S. exports to our neighbors cost prohibitive and in turn, costing American jobs. COOL is a marketing program and this repeal will in no way alter the stringent food safety processes the United States Department of Agriculture carries out each and every day."

The Country of Origin Labeling Amendments Act of 2015 passed the House of Representatives by a vote of 300-131.
