KMA Land - Young Reacts to Iranian Proposal

Iowa 3rd District Congressman David Young says he's skeptical about the much publicized nuclear treaty President Obama is proposing with Iran.

"Well first of all, I'm highly skeptical of the agreement. In five day's we'll be able to see the text of the agreement and we'll do our due diligence of reading it, studying it, having hearings, debating it, listening to constituents of course regarding this and then having the vote. So it's not a done deal and Congress has 60 days to review this and then vote on it."

Young made his comments during his regular Wednesday morning interview on KMA. The Republican from Van Meter says he expects this process will end up with Congress making some changes to the proposal.

"The President has of course said he is going to veto any resolution that passes on this and I'm in disagreement. But there may be enough votes to override a veto. There's been a lot of Democrat's criticism as well and so it's a numbers game right now and we do need to do our due diligence. I'm highly skeptical, but I do need to read this."

Young says one of the red flags for him on this proposed deal is the quick reaction that came from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu yesterday.

"Here we have Iran, an official state sponsoring terrorism who chants 'Death to America' and who's number one goal is destroying the state of Israel, our ally. You know it weighs a lot on you when you talk about an agreement with Iran. And of course all these countries around Iran are highly skeptical and fearful as well because this could spark an arms race. And we are already hearing about Egypt starting to ramp up their nuclear program. So the world is watching the United States of America and what we do on this."
