Menendez, Booker Announce Over $9M in Federal Funding for NJ Sandy Recovery

U.S. Senators Bob Menendez and Cory Booker today announced the awarding of a combined $9,248,264.29 in Sandy relief grants through the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to the State of New Jersey, Oceanport and Manville.

"These grants help bring our state one step further down the path to full recovery from Superstorm Sandy," said Sen. Menendez. "Nearly three years after the state's worst natural disaster, our neighborhoods still endure the scars of Sandy. I will continue to fight for critical resources to ensure homeowners and local communities can rebuild better and more resilient to withstand future storms."

"Today's funding announcement is welcome news for New Jersey communities still recovering from Superstorm Sandy," said Sen. Booker. "We will keep working to ensure FEMA and the federal government finish the job and help protect our state from future disasters."

The specific grant awards:

-$4,086,684 to the New Jersey Office of Emergency Management
For reimbursement of administrative and other expenses reasonably incurred administering and managing the FEMA Public Assistance grant awarded to the state in response to Superstorm Sandy. This represents the final installment.
-$3,700,000 to Somerset County Acquisitions (Borough of Manville)
To further fund the acquisition and demolition of 104 flood prone properties in Manville.
-$1,461,580.29 to Oceanport
To repair the Department of Public Works Building to replace the Police trailers damaged by Superstorm Sandy.

In 2013, the President signed the Superstorm Sandy Supplemental Appropriations bill into law, bringing the total Sandy aid enacted by Congress to $60.2 billion. The funding package included federal aid to help homeowners, businesses, and communities recover, and resources to rebuild coastal, transportation, and water infrastructure.
