Dear Friends,
Over the last two weeks, we've been hearing a lot in the news about the consquences of so-called "sanctuary cities" and how they threaten the safety and security of American citizens. Yesterday afternoon, I offered my solutions in a speech on the House floor. The bill I was speaking in support of, the "Enforce the Law for Sanctuary Cities Act", passed the House a few hours later. I talked with Lou Dobbs last night to drive home the point that we have to act now to bring every city in America into line with federal immigration laws.
No Incentives for Illegal Immigrants
We also need to make sure that those who break our laws are not rewarded. On Tuesday, I introduced the "Tax Credit Accountability Act", to ensure that people who came to this country illegally cannot take advantage of our tax system. Only those who are in full compliance with the law should be able to have the benefit of the Earned Income Tax Credit.
Good Stewardship of Taxpayer Money
The government has a responsibility to wisely spend the money Americans send to Washington in the form of taxes. On Wednesday, I introduced the "Endangered Species Revocery and Transparency Act" to shed light on how much government money is being spent fending off lawsuits against the Endangered Species Act. The Fish and Wildlife Service spends so much time in back door negotiations with serial litigants from environmental groups, that there is not enough time for wildlife preservation. That is contrary to their mission, and this bill is a step toward stopping predatory, costly lawsuits against the FWS.
Protecting Freedom
As a minister and a military chaplain, I want to ensure that everyone has a right to exercise their religious beliefs freely, no matter what country they live in. I shared this conviction with the House last night during a Special Order on International Religious Freedom. America must continue to be a beacon of light in a world that so often seeks to extinguish freedom of conscience.
I am looking forward to staying in the district in the coming month, and I have several Town Hall meetings planned. That announcement will come shortly, so stay tuned to our website and social media outlets for updates.
Sincerely,
Doug Collins
Member of Congress
