Gov. Scott: Naples Area Adds 6,000 New Jobs Over Year in June 2015

Today, Governor Rick Scott announced the Naples area experienced positive annual job growth with an increase of 6,000 jobs over the year in June 2015. The metro area's unemployment rate declined by 0.8 percentage point over the year, from 6.1 percent in June 2014 to 5.3 percent in June 2015. Florida businesses have added more than 896,000 private-sector jobs since December 2010.

Governor Scott said, "With another month of exciting annual job growth in the Naples area, it is clear that our policies of cutting taxes and reducing regulations are helping business succeed. We will remain laser-focused on creating opportunities so every Floridian can find a job and provide for their families."

The industries gaining the most jobs in the metro area over the year in June 2015 were trade, transportation, and utilities with 1,700 new jobs and professional and business services 1,000 new jobs. In June 2015, the metro area had the fastest annual job growth rate compared to all the metro areas in the state in professional and business services at 7.1 percent. The Naples-Marco Island metro area had 4,138 online job openings in June 2015, and the area also had 737 online openings for high wage, high skill science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) occupations.

Florida created 12,200 private-sector jobs in June 2015, and a total of 896,900 private-sector jobs since December 2010. Florida's statewide unemployment rate for June 2015 was 5.5 percent. In June, more than 33,200 Floridians were placed in jobs by CareerSource Southwest Florida and the state's other 23 regional workforce boards.
