Gov. Scott: Fort Lauderdale Gained More Than 27,000 Jobs Over the Year in June 2015

Today, Governor Rick Scott announced that the Fort Lauderdale area gained 27,300 jobs over the year in June 2015. The Fort Lauderdale metro area's unemployment rate declined by 0.9 percentage point over the year, from 6.0 percent in June 2014 to 5.1 percent in June 2015. Florida businesses have added more than 896,000 private-sector jobs since December 2010.

Governor Scott said, "In the past four and a half years, we have cut taxes in Florida 50 times, including $400 million in tax cuts this year. Our focus on creating a low tax, business friendly environment is helping grow jobs across the state, including Fort Lauderdale families."

The industries with the largest job gains over the year were professional and business services with 5,700 new jobs, construction with 4,700 new jobs, education and health services with 4,200 new jobs. In June 2015, the Fort Lauderdale metro area added the most jobs of all the state's metro areas in construction, as well as in information with 300 new jobs. All ten major industry sectors gained jobs over the year in June 2015. In June 2015, the Fort Lauderdale metro area was ranked fourth among all metro areas in Florida for online job demand with 23,118 openings and also ranked fourth for high wage, high skill science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) job openings with 5,693 job openings.

Florida created 12,200 private-sector jobs in June 2015, and a total of 896,900 private-sector jobs since December 2010. Florida's statewide unemployment rate for June 2015 was 5.5 percent. In June, more than 33,200 Floridians were placed in jobs by CareerSource Broward and the state's other 23 regional workforce boards.
