Gov. Scott: The Miami Area Added More Than 27,000 Jobs Over the Year in June 2015

Governor Rick Scott announced today that the Miami area gained 27,900 new jobs in June 2015 compared to a year ago, the third highest number of jobs among all metro areas. The area's unemployment rate declined by 0.5 percentage point over the year, from 6.9 percent in June 2014 to 6.4 percent in June 2015. Florida businesses have added more than 896,000 private-sector jobs since December 2010.

Governor Scott said, "Every company that chooses to grow in Florida means more opportunities for our families, and that is why we are working hard to cut taxes and make it easy for businesses to succeed in our state. The Miami area had the third highest number of jobs added in June, which is great news."

The industries with the largest job gains over the year in the metro area were trade, transportation, and utilities with 7,900 new jobs, leisure and hospitality with 6,600 new jobs, and education and health services with 5,300 new jobs. The Miami metro area had the third-highest online job demand in Florida in June 2015 with 33,291 job openings and had the third-highest number of openings for high wage, high skill science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) occupations in June 2015 with 7,553 online openings.

Florida created 12,200 private-sector jobs in June 2015, and a total of 896,900 private-sector jobs since December 2010. Florida's statewide unemployment rate for June 2015 was 5.5 percent. In June, more than 33,200 Floridians were placed in jobs by CareerSource South Florida and the state's other 23 regional workforce boards.
