Gov. Scott: Orlando Area Continues to Lead Florida in Job Creation

Today, Governor Rick Scott announced that the Orlando area gained 47,200 new jobs over the year in June 2015, the highest number of new jobs among all Florida metro areas for the 29th consecutive month. The Orlando MSA's unemployment rate declined by 1.0 percentage point over the year, from 6.1 percent in June 2014 to 5.1 percent in June 2015. Florida businesses have added more than 896,000 private-sector jobs since December 2010.

Governor Scott said, "Orlando is once again leading the state's metro areas in job creation with more than 47,000 new jobs over the year in June. Positive job growth, high job demand, and decreasing unemployment shows that in Central Florida, and across the state, Florida's economy is growing and families are succeeding."

Governor Scott made the announcement at ODC Construction, a residential construction services company in Orlando. Since 2011, ODC Construction has created 200 new jobs, and currently employs 300 Floridians. The Orlando area gained more than 47,000 new jobs over the year in June 2015, the highest number of new jobs among all Florida metro areas for the 29th consecutive month.

In June 2015, the Orlando metro area led the metro areas in job gains over the year in leisure and hospitality with 13,000 new jobs, trade, transportation, and utilities with 12,400 new jobs, and professional and business services with 8,200 new jobs. The metro area had the second-highest online job demand in Florida in June 2015 with 37,348 openings and also ranked number two in high wage, high skill science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) demand in the state with 9,645 openings in those fields.

Florida created 12,200 private-sector jobs in June 2015, and a total of 896,900 private-sector jobs since December 2010. Florida's statewide unemployment rate for June 2015 was 5.5 percent. In June, more than 33,200 Floridians were placed in jobs by CareerSource Central Florida and the state's other 23 regional workforce boards.
