Gov. Rick Scott: Jacksonville Added More Than 13,000 Jobs Over the Year in May 2015

Today, Governor Rick Scott announced the Jacksonville area gained 13,200 new jobs over the year in May 2015. Jacksonville's unemployment rate declined by 0.7 percentage point over the year, from 6.2 percent in May 2014 to 5.5 percent in May 2015. Florida businesses have added more than 879,000 private-sector jobs since December 2010.

Governor Scott said, "Jacksonville's economy continues to grow with more than 13,000 new jobs added over the year in May. Creating jobs for Florida families has been our number one priority and we applaud our job creators who have added more than 879,000 private-sector jobs in Florida since December 2010."

The industries with the largest job gains over the year were trade, transportation, and utilities with 5,000 new jobs, leisure and hospitality with 4,900 new jobs, and education and health services with 3,200 new jobs. In May 2015, the Jacksonville area had 21,574 online job openings and 5,030 online openings for high wage, high skill science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) jobs.

Florida created 16,200 private-sector jobs in May 2015, and a total of 879,700 private-sector jobs since December 2010. Florida's statewide unemployment rate for May 2015 was 5.7 percent. In May, more than 33,200 Floridians were placed in jobs by CareerSource Northeast Florida and the state's other 23 Regional Workforce Boards.
