Summary

Proposition 144 would add language to the state constitution stating that only citizens could vote and register to vote in an Arizona election. It would also state that an Arizona election can only be decided based on the votes from eligible citizens.

Proposition 144 would add the requirement to the state constitution that voters must show government-issued proof of identity to cast a ballot in an election, regardless of whether they are voting in person or by another method. As of 2026, Arizona voters are required to provide proof of identity when voting, but the requirement is located in state statute, not the state constitution.

Proposition 144 would prohibit a foreign national from making contributions to influence an Arizona election, and prohibit others from knowingly accepting such contributions.

Proposition 144 would require that voters have the option to have their votes tabulated at their voting location on election day. It would only be effective for elections taking place after January 1, 2028.
