As for 'Life of the mother': Delivering a baby early may be necessary to save the mother, killing that baby through abortion, rather than delievery, is not. Rape/Incest: Pregnancy resulting from incest or rape is extremely low (approx .06%) and a horrible situation for a woman to be involved in. I believe adoption is a preferable alternative to abortion, not further wounding a woman by knowing she had also killed her baby. Science clearly shows the potential physical and emotional damage a mother may experience who has aborted a baby. | |||

| Oregon is a severe recession it would be foolish to increase public spending while suffering under the 2nd highest unemployment rate in the nation and with businesses closing in record numbers. Education spending should be targeted to the classrooms, not administrative overhead at the state level. Environment: too often money is spent on 'feel good' projects that cost the taxpayers money and do nothing for the environment. The real stewards are land owners and those who derive their sustenance from the land. Welfare has become a generational way of life rather than a transition back to independent living. | |||
| Oregonians have been taxed and regulated into the poor house. Last session the legislature approved $392 million in new fees, including a huge increase in the registration fees for motor vehicles, RV?s and boats. It is no mystery that 32,000 less vehicles were registered in the period following that decision. Oregonians can?t afford to sustain government at its current level. While private sector jobs are being lost in record numbers state employment is on the rise. Since 2009 over 1900 new state positions were created, while 220,932 people remain unemployed. The private sector lost 1,200 jobs in February 2010 alone! | |||
| Government rarely does anything more efficiently than the private sector. Many jobs now being done by government should be put out for competitive bid to provide the taxpayers the best bang for their buck. Private sector employment reduces the burden created by government employees on the PERS system and by paying for a specific job (time and materials) government isn't trying to sustain an employee who may not be busy all of the time. Government's role should be to analyze bids and make sure the taxpayers are protected. We need to eliminate nonessential services altogether. | |||

| We have term limits. They're called elections. The electorate must be willing to step up and do their job, not abdicate their responsibility by implementing term limits. I understand how desperate voters are to fix a corrupt system, however I believe term limits would simply make it easier for big money interests to line up their next lackey and fully fund them. I support electing people who have been successful in their personal life, serve a few years, and then go back to the private sector. We don't need career politicians. | |||

ILLEGAL immigration is breaking the back of America, taking our jobs, causing us to pay for thier health care and to educate their children. A very high percentage of those serving time in our penal institutions are here illegally. | |||

Education isn't one size fits all. Illegal immigrants ought to be deported. When they come here legally they should have all of the rights as other citizens. | |||

| Climate change is a natural occurrence and not man caused as agreed upon by over 31,000 American scientists who signed a petition encouraging government to take no action based on the false hypothesis of man caused global warming. This "man caused" crisis is just another way for a handful of elitists to get rich on the backs of working families. This country needs to be energy independent and we should free the market to produce energy in the most cost effective manner. Having affordable energy is the only means to increasing our industrial capacity thus our future job creation. | |||

| The second amendment is simple; "The right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed." Those who commit crimes need to be held accountable; those who do not should not be treated as criminals. Weapons don�t kill people, criminals do and they will not obey gun control laws regardless of how many or how well intentioned they are. Honest, law abiding citizens must be able to protect themselves. There is no evidence suggesting that criminalizing the behavior of law abiding citizens reduces crime, more gun control and regulations puts law abiding citizens in greater danger. | |||

| While I believe that God is the author and creator of all life and it is precious, and that suicide is wrong, this is a personal decision and the state does not have the ability to stop a person from killing themselves. I do not agree with the principle, but the fact that the state has no authority to intervene, has been upheld at the U.S. Supreme Court. I have never used marijuana and understand concerns that it is a gateway drug. However, I can find no Constitutional prohibition limiting a person�s freedom to choose what they ingest. | |||

| "Bad laws are the worst sort of tyranny," Edmund Burke. Though passed for what appears to be good reason, a loss of freedom usually accompanies new legislation and requires more of your money to implement and continue regulating. With limited funds available, we must carefully allocate resources where they will do the most good, and not pass laws that simply address personal freedom. Repealing bad laws and determining if new legislation increases or decreases regulation will be my focus. We need to dramatically decrease the size, scope, and cost of state government. It's time to End the War on Freedom. |
