| Every abortion is one too many, but a woman's right to choose personal medical decisions is fundamentally protected by a right to privacy clause in the Constitution, interpreted wisely by the highest court in our land almost fifty years ago. Late term abortions of viable fetuses are, as Roe prescribed, wrong and should remain illegal, except to save the life of the mother. Current efforts to ban all abortions will have a terrible impact on the lives of countless women, and those efforts will surely be overturned by the courts and later remembered at the polls. | |||

Billions of dollars could be saved in the Pentagon's budget by ferreting out unnecessary programs. | |||

Once the economy is growing at a historic average of over two percent, federal spending should be lowered to help reduce the deficit and eventually eliminate the national debt (I am an optimist). | |||

Congress should pass comprehensive immigration reform legislation including a path to citizenship for the millions of adults and their children residing here. Let us never forget that none of the Spaniards who founded St. Augustine, the English at Jamestown, the Pilgrims at Plymouth Rock, or the Puritans in Boston had permission to stay from the native American Indians whose land the Europeans invaded. | |||

I believe the federal deficit should be reduced and eventually eliminated by increasing taxes on the wealthiest among us and eliminating the cap on Social Security earnings. I also believe we should implement a federal lottery in the manner advocated by the late Will Rogers. |
