| With business as usual, the consensus among the experts is that our democratic norms and institutions, upon which are our society is built, will crumble in this century due to rapid climate change. This future is not speculation. It is the broad consensus position in natural and social science worldwide. I believe a strong government response, using market mechanisms, is the quickest and easiest way to make this transition but we will all need to engage on the solution. If we do too little, or nothing at all, we will lose the United States, democracy, and a future for grandchildren. | |||
| The State of Montana is sitting on a $1 billion dollar surplus while tens of thousands of Montanans are living in substandard or temporary housing. Services for the elderly, disabled and those with substance and psychiatric problems are also substandard. These problems result not only in human suffering but they adversely affects our economy: people can't work if they don't have housing or critical heath care for their loved ones. Rebating this money to individuals will not address any of these problems. This money should be used to invest in the health and welfare of Montanans. |
