If elected, my top priorities would be advancing reproductive freedom, fighting for LGBTQ+ rights, and promoting economic equity. These issues are deeply interconnected and central to creating a more just, inclusive society. Reproductive Freedom Protecting and expanding access to reproductive healthcare, including abortion, would be a top priority. The current assault on reproductive rights in states like Louisiana disproportionately affects marginalized communities, particularly low-income people and people of color. I would push for federal protections that enshrine reproductive rights, such as the codification of Roe v. Wade or similar legislation that guarantees the right to choose nationwide. This would require sustained advocacy at both the state and federal levels, including supporting the passage of laws like the Women?s Health Protection Act. To fund expanded reproductive healthcare, I would advocate for federal grants to support clinics in underserved areas. Additionally, we could redirect a portion of existing healthcare funds from inefficient programs or negotiate for lower costs in other healthcare sectors, ensuring comprehensive reproductive care without raising taxes on working people. LGBTQ+ Rights As the co-founder of Queer Northshore and an advocate for LGBTQ+ rights, ensuring the protection and expansion of LGBTQ+ freedoms is another key priority. I would push for the passage of comprehensive non-discrimination laws, such as the Equality Act, to ensure that LGBTQ+ people are protected in all areas of life, including employment, housing, and healthcare. Protecting transgender individuals? access to gender-affirming care is also critical, as these rights are under attack nationwide. Additional funding might be needed to ensure equitable access to healthcare and social services for LGBTQ+ individuals, particularly in underserved areas. We could work to allocate federal funds specifically for LGBTQ+ healthcare programs, as well as push for grant programs that incentivize local governments to expand services for this community. Economic Equity Addressing economic inequality would also be central to my platform. I support policies like universal basic income (UBI) and universal healthcare because they provide people with the financial security and stability needed to thrive. Economic inequities are exacerbated by rising healthcare costs, housing instability, and stagnant wages. By pushing for federal spending on social programs, we can reduce economic inequality and improve the quality of life for working-class Americans. Funding for these initiatives could come from several sources. First, I would support progressive tax reform that ensures wealthy individuals and large corporations pay their fair share. Taxing the ultra-wealthy and closing corporate loopholes would provide a significant revenue stream for programs like UBI and healthcare expansion. Additionally, reallocating federal resources from wasteful areas like military overspending could free up funds for domestic social programs. In summary, my priorities of reproductive freedom, LGBTQ+ rights, and economic equity are about building a fairer, more inclusive society. Funding for these initiatives would come from progressive tax reform, reallocating existing federal resources, and targeted grants.
