| There are a lot of freedoms being taken away from citizens: the right to vote, the right to choose one's own healthcare, the right to have your child learn the true history of our country and state. I will fight for all of these. However, I am most concerned about the environment. Stronger and stronger storms, more catastrophic flooding, increasing wind damage, and the polluting of our waters and natural resources are impacting our communities, our health, the future generations. It is an expensive endeavor right now to implement changes to mitigate this existential crisis. But if we keep kicking the can down the road, not only will it be even more expensive, it might be too late. Air, water, our natural resources, are neither blue nor red. Legislatively we must come together on this issue and work to change our approach to the environment so that Florida can show the way forward. I would ask for funding through tax incentives and grants to encourage businesses to move away from single use items, plastic and environmentally damaging packaging and chemicals. To encourage transportation improvement through green infrastructure and light rail throughout the state, tourism taxes can be utilized to begin this transition. I am still learning of the funding that is available to our state and will continue to do so to encourage legislation in this direction. |
