What is the Political Courage Test?

Virginia Congressional Election 2024 Political Courage Test

Pro-choice Do you generally support pro-choice or pro-life legislation?
No Do you support the Supreme Court's decision to overturn Roe v. Wade?
We must recommit to the principle of "separation of church and state" in our legislative process. Christian nationalism is being used a weapon to take away our rights and freedoms. Violation of this principle erodes religious freedom and well as appreciating the power of diversity that is America!
Yes Do you support expanding federal funding to support social safety net programs such as Social Security and Medicare?
No Do you support a decrease in income taxes in order to balance the budget?
Yes Do you support a wealth tax in order to pay for public programs?
I support removing the income limit for paying into social security that requires billionaires to pay their fair share into social security. I support a fair-tax policy that ensures a fair tax policy for the middle class.
Yes Do you support the regulation of indirect campaign contributions from corporations, unions, and individuals?
No Do you support protecting government officials, including law enforcement officers, from personal liability in civil lawsuits concerning alleged misconduct?
Yes Do you support increasing defense spending?
As long as the spending is strategically focused for the U.S. to maintain technical advancement and superiority over our foreign adversaries.
Yes Do you support federal spending as a means of promoting economic growth (e.g. grants, tax incentives)?
Yes Do you support the federal government increasing funding for affordable housing programs?
No Do you support the federal government taking action, beyond those of the Federal Reserve, to alleviate inflation?
Yes Do you support the forgiveness of federal student loan debt?
No Do you support requiring a government-issued identification in order to vote at the polls?
Yes Do you support government funding for the development of renewable energy (e.g. solar, wind, geo-thermal)?
No Do you support the federal government allowing permits for drilling on public lands?
Drilling impacts climate change. We must shift to carbon free solutions to protect our planet.
Yes Do you generally support gun-control legislation (e.g. red flag laws, boyfriend loopholes)?
In addition, I support a ban on assault weapons and the implementation of a registration process for all gun owners.
No Do you support a government-run (e.g. single-payer) healthcare program, such as Medicare-for-All?
Yes Do you support expanding paid family AND/OR medical leave benefits (e.g. maternity leave)?
Yes Should the government be able to regulate the cost of prescription drugs?
Yes Do you support increasing security along the southern US border?
No Do you support requiring immigrants to return to their country of origin before they are eligible for citizenship, regardless of their immigration status?
I support passing the Border Act that was drafted by the bipartisan legislators, including elements that added additional processors, judges, law clerks, patrol officers, etc. to process incoming immigrants within a 90 day period (issue a visa to put them to work or deport them out of the country). We need to continue to embrace immigration to help augment our workforce needs.
Yes Do you support economic intervention as a means of resolving international conflicts?
Yes Do you support the US providing increased offensive military aid to Ukraine?
Yes Do you generally support increased regulations on social media companies (e.g. Tik Tok, Facebook, etc.)?
Uphold Democracy: Our rights and freedoms are under attack. Voting isn't just a right?it's a responsibility. It's how we protect our freedoms, our values, and our way of life for everyone, regardless of race, gender, or any other reason. We must codify the John Lewis Voting Act and codify Roe v. Wade to protect women?s reproductive rights. Education and Economic Growth: I believe that we must reimagine education through investments in our public schools. The current system is failing too many of our children. Every child deserves the resources to succeed. Roughly 60% of high school graduates leave school without a career technical skill. Businesses are having difficulty recruiting skilled employees that stifle their ability to grow and expand. Increased investments in school counselors and Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs are vital. EVERY student should graduate with marketable skills. We need to pay our teachers competitive salaries to retain and recruit the best educators. Smaller class sizes are essential, especially in high-poverty and marginalized communities, and I support federal grants to achieve this. Early childhood education is crucial for a strong start. We must expand access to high-quality programs nationwide. Higher education should be an opportunity for all, not a financial burden, so I advocate for increased funding for federal financial aid and debt forgiveness. Climate Change: I believe we must continue to invest in clean energy solutions, i.e. solar, wind, nuclear, etc. Our planet is experiencing increasing temperatures, and we must act now! For example, offer incentives to transition to electric vehicles and implement reforestation programs. Innovate farming to reduce greenhouse gases and practices that disrupt the environment and biodiversity.
