| The 65+ age group is growing in Pennsylvania. The PA Lottery was established to assist with services for seniors. I would support the Governor's 10-year Strategic plan, Aging our Way, PA and implementing several of the initiatives in the plan from the lottery funds. Medicaid funding for assisted living is needed to have an alternative for residents to choose if they do not desire to live in a nursing home but cannot live at home. This option will save the state funds paid to nursing homes. The cost of an Assisted Living Community is $49,200 compared to a semi-private room in a nursing facility of $124,841. This cost savings would allow to implement other programs to support seniors. The Workforce crisis affects all industries but especially healthcare. One of the deterrents to entering the workforce is the high cost of child care. There needs to an intergenerational options to allow a worker to receive discounted child care when working with seniors. Grants should be made available to health care facilities to build and provide child care to attract workers. This grant funding maybe an options from the federal Health and Human Services Department. |
