What is the Political Courage Test?

Florida Congressional Election 2022 Political Courage Test

Pro-choice Do you generally support pro-choice or pro-life legislation?
Yes Do you support expanding federal funding to support social safety net programs such as Social Security and Medicare?
I do not support saddling the working poor or middle classes with more of the tax burden than they already have whilst the wealthy continue to evade paying their fair share.
Yes Do you support the regulation of indirect campaign contributions from corporations, unions, and individuals?
I fully support nullifying the Citizens United ruling through Congress, in addition to creating more transparency regarding campaign finance across all levels and activities related to elections.
No Do you support the protection of government officials, including law enforcement officers, from personal liability in civil lawsuits concerning alleged misconduct?
Absolutely not. Ron DeSantis attacked me on live television in front of the Vice President of the United States and I couldn't do a damn thing about it because he is exempted from defamation lawsuits.
No Do you support increasing defense spending?
Yes Do you support federal spending as a means of promoting economic growth?
Yes Do you support providing financial relief to businesses AND/OR corporations negatively impacted by the state of national emergency for COVID-19?
Unknown Position Do you support the federal government taking action, beyond those of the Federal Reserve, to alleviate inflation?
A lot of these questions would be detailed and nuanced, based on the size of the business, the types of spending and where it is directed, and who it ultimately benefits. I support helping people and families, schools and public institutions, first and foremost, but in times of extreme crises, other measures may need to be taken.
Unknown Position Do you support the forgiveness of federal student loan debt?
Unknown Position Do you support requiring a government-issued identification in order to vote at the polls?
Yes Do you support government funding for the development of renewable energy (e.g. solar, wind, geo-thermal)?
Yes Do you support the federal regulation of greenhouse gas emissions?
My academic and professional background is in climate science. I focused my research for my doctoral studies on paletotempestology, have served as a climate change subject matter expert for three states' master plans, taught climate change courses at the collegiate level, and been an activist in the movement most of my life. There is no issue I understand better and know more intimately than climate science.
Yes Do you generally support gun-control legislation?
As someone who has been denied due process -- the December 2020 police raid on my home and family in which armed men pointed guns at my small children without a warrant and stole my computer equipment on orders of Ron DeSantis -- I am sensitive about legislation that denies anyone that right, which some "red flag" laws do. Aside from that, I believe absolutely in banning assault-style weapons, high-capacity magazines, bump stocks, raising the legal age to purchase a weapon, banning open carry and constitutional carry, and the vast majority of other issues on the subject.
Unknown Position Do you support a government-run (single-payer) healthcare program, such as Medicare-for-All?
Unknown Position Do you support expanding paid family AND/OR medical leave opportunities?
Unknown Position Do you support lowering the cost of prescription drugs?
Business should be required to provide paid medical leave ALL OF THE TIME.
No Do you support requiring immigrants who are unlawfully present to return to their country of origin before they are eligible for citizenship?
Unknown Position Do you support increasing security along the southern US border?
Unknown Position Do you support economic intervention as a means of resolving international conflicts?
Unknown Position Do you support the U.S. providing increased offensive military aid to Ukraine?
Unknown Position Do you support raising taxes, on any income or on any entity, to promote economic growth?
No Do you generally support removing barriers to international trade (for example: tariffs, quotas, etc.)?
Mixed on this. I don't think the United States should accept or sell products made in countries that use child or slave labor, or otherwise engage in labor practices illegal in our country. I don't believe in austerity measures that are overly rigid or would deprive citizens of necessary goods, like food, water, housing, etc. But I believe we should stop allowing companies making record profits skirt our own labor and safety standards by importing materials and goods made or grown using the exploitation of other people.
No one knew two years ago who I was and I was fine with that. I was mid-management for the Florida Department of Health, and I managed COVID-19 data and surveillance during the first six months of the pandemic. After I refused to put misleading data on our public systems to drum up support for a political agenda, I was fired, attacked, defamed, smeared, harassed, threatened, raided and even jailed. I came forward because no one else would or could. And I'm fighting Matt Gaetz for the same reasons. Government transparency, accountability and evidence-based decision making. Those are my priorities.
