Pro-choice Do you generally support pro-choice or pro-life legislation?
There's this common misconception that abortive measures are solely to mitigate reckless or irresponsible behavior. But that's not the case! As a former Police Officer, I have worked my share of rape cases, and have seen instances where, in addition to the horrific nature of these crimes, the possibility of (an unwanted) pregnancy is one that looms. That, and the understanding that many pregnancies come with life-threatening issues, that could affect both Mother and fetus. On a personal note, as Christian man, I still believe that these matters are between the Women, her doctor, and her God.
Yes In order to balance the budget, do you support an income tax increase on any tax bracket?
Yes Do you support expanding federal funding to support entitlement programs such as Social Security and Medicare?
While I understand their frustration with this matter, we have seen the advantages of our wealthier Americans paying higher taxes. But I, too, believe that our Government should offer greater transparency to where these taxes go. Especially to those who are paying the lion's share. We should also offer them alternative methods to tithing, such as urban renewal programs (for example). We need to shed our naivete when it comes to these matters. These people have the best lawyers in the world and the hardest working lobbyists in this Country. A kinder word will go further in this matter.
Yes Do you support the regulation of indirect campaign contributions from corporations and unions?
Our FEC reporting and requirements are (already) put in place to serve the people, and offer financial transparency into our (hired) elected officials. That said, its time we seek additional transparency and regulation of contributors and their effect on our (hired) elected officials and their voting tendencies. The past years have lent to much suspicion when it comes to this matter. Only through regulation and transparency can we reestablish the lost trust.
No Do you support the protection of government officials, including law enforcement officers, from personal liability in civil lawsuits concerning alleged misconduct?
Again, as former Police, we swear an oath to protect and serve our communities. And in moments, where we are found lacking in our performance of said duties or (simply) behaving in a manner unbecoming to these oaths, our (respective) municipalities are being civilly sued and are bearing the financial responsibility of our discretions. And from a budgetary standpoint, those funds can range in the millions (annually). Those funds could be better suited and used for the community. Perhaps a personal accountability will bring the moments of pause we need from our government officials and officers of the court.
No Do you support increasing defense spending?
Defense spending is always tough topic, as many do not understand the details and minutia when it comes to it. And while we are seeing the fruits of our financial support of our allies, in their fight against Russia, its not easy to justify an increased spending at this point. We have the largest military budget in the world while maintaining the worlds most powerful military. And that said, we are finding ourselves lapsing in matters at home. I believe in our place in this world militarily, but I think we need to internally at this time.
Yes Do you support federal spending as a means of promoting economic growth?
No Do you support lowering corporate taxes as a means of promoting economic growth?
Yes Do you support providing financial relief to businesses AND/OR corporations negatively impacted by the state of national emergency for COVID-19?
The past two years have seen (both) large and small businesses shutter their sites, during COVID. Our local businesses provide (both) much needed jobs and revenue to our communities. And we need to bring them back to a full operational status as soon as possible, before the damage to our District's communities is irreparable. If elected I fully intend to pursue and implement policies that will provide and secure continued funding and treatment for our COVID "long-haulers" as well as the businesses that employ them.
No Do you support requiring states to adopt federal education standards?
COVID, not only exposed our weaknesses in our (overall) general health, welfare, and healthcare industries, it also exposed the unmitigated flaws in our education system as well. Sadly, many of our Educators lacked the training and ability to counterman the COVID crisis, and effects of the past two years will reverberate through the many that will follow. That said, there is no way to adopt federal education standard at this time. I believe that the states should maintain jurisdiction over matters of education. However, we should keep a federal standard on hand, in case some states wish to adopt it.
Yes Do you support government funding for the development of renewable energy (e.g. solar, wind, geo-thermal)?
Yes Do you support the federal regulation of greenhouse gas emissions?
We have long been in need of an increased focus and diligence towards Environmental preservation and betterment. These past years have seen an increase in catastrophic weather events, communities dealing with unclean water and air, and an overall environmental degradation. We also seen strides in clean energy practices that need to be protected federally. If elected, I will lend my efforts to the federal regulation of greenhouse gas emissions as well as any other environmentally conscious and protective efforts for our Country.
Yes Do you generally support gun-control legislation?
There are more guns, in our Country than there are people to use them. However, we can still pursue commonsense measures to keep our communities safe from gun violence, while still protecting the Second Amendment rights of our law-abiding citizens. As a Navy Veteran, I swore an oath to protect this nation and its people. And as a gun owner, I am prepared to do so with arms. However, we have to be more honest when addressing the relationship between the accessibility of guns and the tragically high level of gun-related violence in our communities.
No Do you support repealing the 2010 Affordable Care Act ("Obamacare")?
Yes Do you support requiring businesses to provide paid medical leave during public health crises, such as COVID-19?
Though its been a couple years since we entered this pandemic, we must never forget those who stood and sacrificed so much, in the front lines as "essential workers". Our healthcare, food-prep and retail industries...to mention just a few. And as this pandemic is still claiming lives and leaving employers shorthanded across our Nation, we must offer every resource and opportunity to these companies afloat and engaged in the communities. One of the ways to do this is ensure that they financially able to keep up safe practices in the workplace and allowing leave for those who test positive.
Yes Do you support the construction of a wall along the Mexican border?
No Do you support requiring immigrants who are unlawfully present to return to their country of origin before they are eligible for citizenship?
As a nation descended from and built by immigrants, we must not forget the advantages of filling our cities and towns with those who risk so much to come here, and only because they see the greatness and opportunity our Nation offers. The only change I would propose, is that we focus more on the legalization of the immigrants who are already here and being productive in their communities.
Yes Should the United States use military force to prevent governments hostile to the U.S. from possessing a weapon of mass destruction (for example: nuclear, biological, chemical)?
Yes Do you support reducing military intervention in Middle East conflicts?
As a 9 year Navy veteran and current Navy Program Manager, I will take my knowledge of Defense spending and budgeting to Washington. I would immediately volunteer my services as a member of the House Armed Services Committee, and other oversight committees that are geared towards the betterment of the American Servicemember and the reduction of wasteful spending. But, we cant stop there. If our history has taught us nothing (more), its taught us that having strong allies, in the field only makes our warfighters jobs easier and safer.
No Do you generally support removing barriers to international trade (for example: tariffs, quotas, etc.)?
Two words...Baby Formula. Our drastic reduction in NAFTA brought this about.
EDUCATION REFORM: Maryland ranks 2nd, nationwide, in education, while Baltimore fails to place a Public High School in the top 10 (statewide). Additionally, we can?t ignore the direct correlation between our (lapsing) education system & our District?s crime rate. I will work towards bettering schooling for our Children & increased pay for Educators. GUN VIOLENCE: Sadly, about 12 out of every 100K Marylanders perish due to gun violence annually, with Baltimore being on track to (again) surpass 330 shooting deaths for the year of 2022. It?s imperative that our District pursues tougher gun laws & penalties for their usage.
