What is the Political Courage Test?

Oregon Congressional Election 2020 Political Courage Test

Pro-choice Do you generally support pro-choice or pro-life legislation?
While I personally don't like the idea of abortion, I am pro-choice. I 100% support a womans right to choose what to do with her body.
Yes In order to balance the budget, do you support an income tax increase on any tax bracket?
Yes Do you support expanding federal funding to support entitlement programs such as Social Security and Medicare?
Social Security is one of the most successful government programs ever. I would fight to expand it and make the payouts greater. Medicare needs to be expanded into Medicare for All. It's pathetic that we are the only industrilized nation without healthcare for all.
Yes Do you support the regulation of indirect campaign contributions from corporations and unions?
Yes I would fight to overturn Citizens United. Corporations should have the same contribution limit as an individual.
No Do you support increasing defense spending?
No we spend way more money than any other country in the world. I would direct a significant portion of defense spending to people spending. invest in schools and infratructure and converting from a fossil fuel to a sustainable economy.
Yes Do you support federal spending as a means of promoting economic growth?
No Do you support lowering corporate taxes as a means of promoting economic growth?
Yes Do you support providing financial relief to businesses AND/OR corporations negatively impacted by the state of national emergency for COVID-19?
Yes of course some business need relief but so do hard working Americans. Certain business should not get relief. I think we should go to a German model that would have the government pay 60% of wages to workers that are isolated but remain employed. This is cheaper than paying unemployment and it provides immediate relief for workers. plus the workers remain employed even though they're not working.
Yes Do you support requiring states to adopt federal education standards?
Yes there should be a minimum standard but states can do more than the minimum.
Yes Do you support government funding for the development of renewable energy (e.g. solar, wind, geo-thermal)?
Yes Do you support the federal regulation of greenhouse gas emissions?
I support regulations that transition us from a fossil fuel to a sustainable economy.
Yes Do you generally support gun-control legislation?
I have owned guns myslef and believe in the right to own one. But I also believe we need strict background checks, we need to close the gunshow loophole, we need red flag laws to remove guns from those that are deemed a danger and those that have been convicted of domestic abuse. We need to ban the furture sale of assault weapons but not remove them form law abiding owners that currently have them.
No Do you support repealing the 2010 Affordable Care Act ("Obamacare")?
Yes Do you support requiring businesses to provide paid medical leave during public health crises, such as COVID-19?
Yes but I would fight for a system like Germany has that would allow companies that need it to get funding form the government to pay workers. Workers could remain employed even while not working do to isolation. The government program would provide 60% of wages. This would be like unemployment but the workers wouldn't need to apply only the companies.
Yes Do you support the construction of a wall along the Mexican border?
No Do you support requiring immigrants who are unlawfully present to return to their country of origin before they are eligible for citizenship?
No I do not. I think we need comeprehensive immigration reform that would streamline the process for asylum seekers and immigrants. This would include a streamlined process for citizenship and a path for DACA recipients.
Yes Should the United States use military force to prevent governments hostile to the U.S. from possessing a weapon of mass destruction (for example: nuclear, biological, chemical)?
Yes Do you support reducing military intervention in Middle East conflicts?
Yes we need to quit intervening in other countries not just the Middle East.
Yes Do you generally support removing barriers to international trade (for example: tariffs, quotas, etc.)?
generally yes but some jobs need to be protected and we need to protect industriess vital for the security of our country.
I believe Congress should look like those it represents. Currently most of Congress is made of of millionaires or very wealthy. I believe it needs to include more working class Americans. People like the the workers deemed essential during the COVID-19 crisis. My priorites would be fighting climate change (Rejoin Paris Agreement, Green New Deal, transitioning from fossil fuels to a sustainable economy.) Medicare for All, Respect for others ( No for profiyt prisons, nofor profit detention centers, no family separation, racial justice and equality, LGNTQ equality, end paternalism of Native American tribes)
