| Whenever I hear about the sanctity of life, and the need to protect the unborn, it's usually from the same people who adamantly support the death penalty, and the same people who want to deny funding to poor infants. The argument sounds to me like "life is precious"- but only until the moment the child is born. Maybe if people pushing to close the clinics cared more about poor children, or children of color, I wouldn't find their arguments so insincere. I will defend a woman's right to control her own body as long as there is breath in mine. | |||

| The US is paying $3.5 trillion for healthcare, double the rate of industrialized nations. Half of that is profit and administration. I support gradual transitioning to single payer health care, keeping the same excellent medical treatment teams but 1. Removing insurance gouging; and 2. Eliminating corporate profiteering in healthcare. Because we have 50% fat built in to what we are already paying, when that 50% is removed, the costs will decrease greatly. | |||

Corporations that profit from our national problems will continue to block meaningful solutions to those problems until we neutralize corporate power in Washington by: ending Citizens United, which I consider bad law; capping federal campaign spending to $25k per candidate; ending PACS; ending SUPERPACS; and eliminating dark money of 'independent expense' accounts. | |||

Students who really want to learn at our public schools are hijacked by the daily drama, and their scores suffer. The good news is, we can increase learning in the classroom by identifying students who need social and mental health supports due to trauma at home. To effectively address the role home trauma plays in the classroom, I support efforts to build a trauma-informed workforce in schools, to provide support to young children and families who have been exposed to trauma. | |||

| Each conflict is different. I did not support withdrawing from the Iranian nuclear deal because we had no evidence Iran was in violation of it, and feel we are now at greater risk. I did not agree with the withdrawal from Syria, leaving our Kurdish allies to perish. I do agree with withdrawing from Afghanistan, but not suddenly, and not without safeguarding troops and civilians. | |||
| I would convert the entire country to renewable energy, including industry. I would fund it by transferring fossil fuel subsidies of $750billion to renewable energy; I would also establish a carbon based import ban to give domestic industry a ten year economic cushion in which to convert. I would also transition our healthcare system to single payer, which I believe will cut our health care costs in half and eliminate price gouging by big pharma. I would also increase teacher pay and institute trauma-sensitive education policies in public education, as I believe that trauma in the home depresses academic performance. |
