What is the Political Courage Test?

Ohio Congressional Election 2020 Political Courage Test

Pro-choice Do you generally support pro-choice or pro-life legislation?
I think that the people who have been trying to completely take away a women's reproductive rights should focus on measures that reduce unwanted pregnancies and do not take away a women's choice. By having comprehensive sexual education available to our students, by making birth control available over the counter, and by helping to reform the healthcare system so that all women can access to care without worrying about the costs are ways to reduce the amount of unplanned pregnancies.
Yes In order to balance the budget, do you support an income tax increase on any tax bracket?
Yes Do you support expanding federal funding to support entitlement programs such as Social Security and Medicare?
I think that Social Security needs to be stabilized and made sustainable and that Medicare should be available for all who want it. A Universal Healthcare system should be worked toward so that Medicare would eventually be replaced.
Yes Do you support the regulation of indirect campaign contributions from corporations and unions?
Yes - I think that the money is causing politicians to be corrupt in that the way that they serve their office is indebted to the interests of the big money that these kinds of supporters give them during their campaigns.
Unknown Position Do you support the protection of government officials, including law enforcement officers, from personal liability in civil lawsuits concerning alleged misconduct?
No Do you support increasing defense spending?
U.S. military spending is greater than those of the next 10 largest government expenditures combined. In 2018, it was three times more than China's military budget of $250 billion and 10 times bigger than Russia's budget of just $61.4 billion. U.S. militarism allows other allies to cut back on their own defense spending. It also raises the U.S. budget deficit and the $22 trillion debt. There is no realistic way to reduce either without cutting defense spending.
Yes Do you support federal spending as a means of promoting economic growth?
Yes Do you support lowering corporate taxes as a means of promoting economic growth?
Unknown Position Do you support providing financial relief to businesses AND/OR corporations negatively impacted by the state of national emergency for COVID-19?
This is a tactic that I support if done right. I think we need to encourage our companies to be present here with their headquarters, factories, and as employers BUT I think that Trump's corporate tax cut was too much and has not trickled down any benefits to the workers nor the deficit.
Yes Do you support requiring states to adopt federal education standards?
I think that there should be very basic standards and goals with room for states to add to, modify, and have freedom of implementation. For example, if your goal is literacy, there are various ways to teach that and a state can choose which program or method to use. Educators need to be involved in the creation of these standards.
Yes Do you support government funding for the development of renewable energy (e.g. solar, wind, geo-thermal)?
Yes Do you support the federal regulation of greenhouse gas emissions?
The government needs to regulate greenhouse gas emissions and needs to be vigilant in testing and monitoring.
Yes Do you generally support gun-control legislation?
I do not advocate for taking everybody's guns - but there are measures that can be taken to reduce harm done when the wrong people have guns. Current laws need to be fully enforced, the system for updating records for violent people as crimes are committed needs to be modernized and easy for law enforcement to implement. Fairly enforced Red Flag laws would protect people from harm and a universal background check needs to happen for every sale.
No Do you support repealing the 2010 Affordable Care Act ("Obamacare")?
Unknown Position Do you support requiring businesses to provide paid medical leave during public health crises, such as COVID-19?
Protections for people with preexisting conditions need to be protected. Until a time when universal healthcare is the standard, I do not support repealing the ACA.
No Do you support the construction of a wall along the Mexican border?
No Do you support requiring immigrants who are unlawfully present to return to their country of origin before they are eligible for citizenship?
I think the Dreamers, who have only known this country as their home and who are fully integrated need to be kept here and given a path to full citizenship. There needs to be a reform in how people gain citizenship and their needs to be a status for those who are here illegally but are contributing to our country where we can document them and either grant a visitor or guest status or a path to citizenship. Immigrants add to the economy and we are spending way too much on holding and kicking out immigrants.
Yes Should the United States use military force to prevent governments hostile to the U.S. from possessing a weapon of mass destruction (for example: nuclear, biological, chemical)?
Yes Do you support reducing military intervention in Middle East conflicts?
Yes Do you generally support removing barriers to international trade (for example: tariffs, quotas, etc.)?
I think the government needs to be fair and diplomatic taking into consideration the many effected players when it comes to trade.
1. I would like to see implemented a Medicare for all who want it or a similar government not-for-profit option for people to purchase. 2. I would want to focus on strengthening the EPA and putting back into place environmental protections. 3. Student loan finance reform needs to happen to remove the stranglehold that school loan debt has on so many. As it stands, it is predatory and unfair in regards to interest rates and fees.
