| Nobody likes paying taxes. But we can't expect property tax hikes to pay for services. We can't keep trimming salaries, pensions, & benefits to squeeze out a 'balanced' budget. We need the kinds of well paid jobs that allow young people to stay in the state & raise their families here. We need to provide our aging population, our vets, & those most in need with adequate affordable healthcare. We need properly funded public schools that can attract & keep top notch teachers to educate the children that are our future decision-makers. How besides taxes can we do these things? | |||

We are, after all, talking about a volunteer job in a house of representatives that is often largely made up of the independently wealthy & the retired - hardly a fair representation of NH demographics. Some absences must be excused for work, health, weather, or family matters. But a failure to be an active representative of those who put you in office - to be a 'bench warmer - is not acceptable. | |||

There are public safety issues (i.e. driving under the influence) & other health issues (increased incidence of lung cancer etc.) to be considered before making blanket decisions. Re: (d): This must be decided on a case-by-case basis. What crime? What age? Re: (d): we do not live n a police state. ICE & border patrolling/immigrant trolling are way out of control as matters currently stand. Our immigration laws need redesign, but we must never forget that we are talking about human beings who may be facing horrific choices. | |||

| Historically, government spending on infrastructure & social structures has been the primary motivator of growth. Trickle down economics does. Not. Work. Events of the last 20 years have proven that corporations REQUIRE regulation or the rest of us face flat earnings & jobs in the face of runaway greed at the top. Unemployment benefits are another issue that is not 'one size fits all'. Where does job retraining fit here? Likewise being clean on welfare is necessary - but with it goes availability of rehab & job training programs. Minimum wage of $15/hr = vast reduction of welfare rolls. | |||

| Re (a), I can't answer that without knowing more about the national standards. My knee jerk reaction: I think NH can do better than the National average. Re (b) State funding is for excellent public schools with services for all kids' needs. Period. Re (c): I need more information on this. And what role does DACA, which I support, have in this conversation? | |||

| In the long run, a move to renewable energy is more sustainable, provides more job opportunities, has better health benefits, & will ultimately be less expensive than throwing our money at a fossil fuel industry that has long been propped up by government handouts, & has done untold damage to our air, water, land, climate - & by extension, our health. Our state power companies already have the infrastructure in place to deliver renewables. There is no downside that I can see. | |||

| I never had insurance until ACA, & it was a life saver to me. I currently believe that Medicare - a system already in place with a track record of success - is a very good option for providing a universal health care plan that this country badly needs. 'Right to die' must rest, of course, on the individual patient's ability to express his or her wishes through the proper legal channels while judged able to make these decisions. And vaccines save lives. Period. | |||

| I believe in healthy forests, clean watersheds, & productive farmland. I support NH farmers, small businesses, craftspeople, & artists. I see a fully funded public education as essential to democracy & a civil society. I think that solving the opioid crisis & developing affordable healthcare for all is essential. Many of these things require a shift in focus & priorities rather than extra funding. Where increased funding is required, an overhaul of our tax structure will be needed. I don't have those answers, but will work at finding solutions aimed at the betterment of NH & its people. |
