What is the Political Courage Test?

New York State Legislative Election 2018 Political Courage Test

Pro-choice a) Do you generally support pro-choice or pro-life legislation?
Yes b) Should abortion be legal when the pregnancy resulted from incest or rape?
Yes c) Do you support the prohibition of public funds for organizations that perform abortions?
I believe the government should not impede on a woman's decision to decide what to do with her body, however public funds should not be used to fund abortion organizations to respect people's religious beliefs that may be against abortion.

1) Budget Stabilization:Indicate which proposals you support (if any) for balancing New York 's budget.

No a) Reducing state employee salaries AND/OR pensions?
Yes b) Instituting mandatory furloughs AND/OR layoffs for state employees?
No c) Reducing benefits for Medicaid recipients?
No d) An income tax increase on any tax bracket?
I believe that we can achieve funded government programs and agencies with current levels of spending. In order to achieve this I propose a freeze of the current budget levels and a line item review of the bureaucracy to eliminate redundancies thereby reducing overall costs and making the system run efficiently, without having to increase taxes on anyone.
Yes a) Do you support any limits on campaign contributions to state candidates?
Yes b) Do you support the regulation of indirect campaign contributions from corporations and unions?
Yes c) Do you support the use of an independent AND/OR bipartisan commission for redistricting?
No d) Do you support requiring a government-issued photo identification in order to vote at the polls?
I am in favor of eliminating all corporate donations to political campaigns, making the people the sole donors and voices in any campaign. I would also reduce the current campaign contribution limit from individuals to campaigns.
Yes a) Do you support capital punishment for certain crimes?
Yes b) Do you support the legalization of marijuana for recreational purposes?
No c) Should a minor accused of a violent crime be prosecuted as an adult?
Yes d) Do you support the enforcement of federal immigration laws by state and local police?
Yes e) Do you support replacing the cash bail system with a supervised release system for misdemeanor charges?
In response to immigration, I am in favor of the states having more control on the enforcement of laws instead of creating multiple new federal agencies that become a drain on the budget. In this we can save funding while still enforcing federal laws.
No a) Do you support state government spending as a means of promoting economic growth?
Yes b) Do you support lowering state taxes as a means of promoting economic growth?
Yes c) Do you support reducing state government regulations on the private sector?
Yes d) Do you support expanding access to unemployment benefits?
Yes e) Do you support requiring welfare applicants to pass a drug test in order to receive benefits?
No f) Do you support an increase of the minimum wage of New York ?
Increasing the minimum wage will not help people. I believe we should give more power to unions to organize and develop their own benefits by reforming the union laws that are outdated. In doing so there is a reason for people to join and collectively bargain for better wages and be a healthy counterpart to business. This is not to say I agree with mandatory dues payments. Reducing regulation is good, not to say I believe regulation is bad. There needs to be a healthy balance where the free market can operate within efficient regulations set by the government
No a) Do you support adopting federal education standards in New York ?
No b) Do you support state funding for charter schools?
No c) Should immigrants unlawfully present in the United States who graduate from New York high schools be eligible for in-state tuition at public universities?
No d) Should students' standardized test scores be used to evaluate teacher performance?
There needs to be a more multi-faceted approach to teacher evaluation.
Yes a) Do you support state funding for the development of renewable energy (e.g. solar, wind, thermal)?
Yes b) Do you support state government regulations of greenhouse gas emissions?
Yes c) Do you support increasing state funding for clean drinking water initiatives?
I believe some state funding can be good however we should focus more on creating legislation that incentives private business to come into the market that the people need and want.
Yes a) Do you generally support gun-control legislation?
Yes b) Should background checks be required on gun sales between private citizens at gun shows?
No c) Should teachers be allowed to bring guns into the classroom?
No d) Should a license be required for gun ownership?
Gun control legislation in the line that mentally unstable people are screened to prevent gun ownership.
Yes a) Should the state government increase funding for treatment facilities to combat opioid abuse?
No b) Do you support Medicaid expansion through New York 's health care programs?
No c) Do you support requiring individuals to purchase health care insurance?
Yes d) Do you support legislation that grants citizens the right to choose to die through euthanasia?
Yes e) Do you support eliminating religious exemptions for vaccinations?
I agree we should help more to combat opioid abuses and it would be a better use of money opposed to having victims incarcerated without treatment and no options. While I agree Medicaid is an important part of our government programs we need to evaluate the current system to see how we can operate it more efficiently before expanding and throwing more money to it.
Yes a) Do you support the inclusion of sexual orientation in New York 's anti-discrimination laws?
Yes b) Do you support the inclusion of gender identity in New York 's anti-discrimination laws?
Yes c) Do you support greater efforts by New York state government in closing the pay gap between men and women?
No d) Should New York permit localities to adopt "Sanctuary City" immigration policies?
e) Other or expanded principles:
1. Sustainable and resilient development - moratorium on luxury development, repeal of 421a, and funding of resiliency projects across the state 2. Transparently and immediately fund the MTA - focus on system wide upgrades with a transparent line item budget review as well as an authority audit to reduce the bureaucracy. 3. Education reform - Keep the SHSAT and reform our guidance and tutoring system to provide every outlet for our students to learn and know where the opportunities are. Bring back vocational programs.
