What is the Political Courage Test?

Wisconsin State Legislative Election 2020 Political Courage Test

Pro-choice a) Do you generally support pro-choice or pro-life legislation?
Yes b) Do you support legalizing abortion when the pregnancy resulted from incest or rape?
No c) Do you support the prohibition of public funds for organizations that perform abortions?
I am appalled by the move to end funding to Planned Parenthood. They do many more breast exams and pap smears than anything else---at affordable rates! Rowdy protesters outside Planned Parenthood offices that don't even offer abortions intimidate middle aged women who are suffering from gynecological issues and need speedy access and affordable exams. Please understand that the teary 70 year old going into Planned Parenthood is not worried about birth control. It's very likely that the 45 year old is going to PP to gather 'Safe Sex' information for her teens. Women's health care is vital.
No a) In order to balance the budget, do you support reducing state employee salaries AND/OR pensions?
Yes b) In order to balance the budget, do you support an income tax increase on any tax bracket?
Balancing the budget is so much more than increasing taxes or reducing salaries and pensions. The tax structure presently favors the wealthy who have loopholes and can hire tax cutting experts while the middle class continues to pay and pay. The tax codes outweigh that elephant that the GOP proudly displays. That is where change is needed. On the state level we need clear minded, fair, honest individuals to create, monitor and vote on our next budgets.
Yes a) Do you support a limit on campaign contributions to state candidates?
Yes b) Do you support the regulation of indirect campaign contributions from corporations and unions?
Yes c) Do you support the use of an independent AND/OR bipartisan commission for redistricting?
No d) Do you support requiring a government-issued photo identification in order to vote at the polls?
Yes e) Do you support automatic voter registration?
Automatic voter registration is happening in many states in our country without a hitch. It is also the most cost effective way to ensure and protect authentic registration in a timely manner. It will automatically encourage teens to become engaged with the election process and help bring more people to vote. And voter engagement needs to be a primary concern of every state.
No a) Do you support capital punishment for certain crimes?
No b) Should an individual under 18 accused of a violent crime be prosecuted as an adult?
No c) Do you support the enforcement of federal immigration laws by state and local police?
No d) Do you support the use of private prisons in Wisconsin?
No e) Do you support mandatory minimum sentences for non-violent drug offenders?
Yes f) Do you support the legalization of recreational marijuana?
No g) Should individuals convicted of violent crimes be eligible for early release?
No h) Should law enforcement officers be protected when reporting a violation of use-of-force standards?
I urge police departments across the state to get back to the concept of neighborhood support----our friends and confidants. The militarization of departments has created a era of fear for the police. I want my grand daughters to see a policeman on foot or in a vehicle as an ally. No wish to defund the police but adding social workers to our over burdened forces is necessary. Additionally, every public sector recruit should have stringent background, psychological and motive reports before and after hiring.
Yes a) Do you support state government spending as a means of promoting economic growth?
No b) Do you support lowering state income taxes as a means of promoting economic growth?
No c) Do you support reducing government regulations on the private sector?
No d) Do you support requiring welfare applicants to pass a drug test in order to receive benefits?
Yes e) Do you support an increase of the minimum wage of Wisconsin?
Yes f) Do you support requiring employers to provide paid family leave?
Yes g) Do you support providing financial relief to businesses AND/OR corporations negatively impacted by the state of national emergency for COVID-19?
I strongly support the creation of a new category of Small Town-or Main Street Businesses with 25 or less employees having priority funding during this time. Our small town businesses are the last to receive any benefits and those sums have been minimal.
a) Do you support adopting federal education standards in Wisconsin?
No b) Do you support state funding for charter schools?
Yes c) Do you support increasing teacher salaries AND/OR benefits in Wisconsin?
Yes d) Should immigrants unlawfully present in the United States who graduate from Wisconsin high schools be eligible for in-state tuition at public universities?
Yes e) Do you support raising tuition at Wisconsin public universities?
I will do anything and everything that I can to restore fair and equitable funding to Wisconsin's public schools---especially to ensure full funding for special education students. I do believe, based on citizen input that we must make Wisconsin's education standards less dependent on test scores and more focused on actions and results. Additionally, the federal funding must be restored and the focus on our public schools from Pre K through high school and beyond must be primary as our young people and our local public schools are the greatest asset we will ever see.
Yes a) Do you support state funding for the development of renewable energy (e.g. solar, wind, geo-thermal)?
Yes b) Do you support government regulations of greenhouse gas emissions?
Yes c) Do you support increasing state funding for clean drinking water initiatives?
I will start an initiative to educate well users and test all wells in my district. The assumption that all the water in our wells or out of our city faucets is good is a falsehood.
Yes a) Do you generally support gun-control legislation?
Yes b) Should background checks be required on gun sales between private citizens at gun shows?
No c) Should teachers be allowed to bring guns into the classroom after passing gun safety training?
Yes d) Should a license be required for gun ownership?
As a gun owner myself I believe that the unchecked sale of any weapon is dangerous and beyond the realm of public safety. I have hunted. I target practice. The NRA has gotten totally out of hand with and created the same sales and buy mentality seen in the cell phone world. I have watched at teens purchase repeating rifles at gun shows and watched men selling guns out of the backs of pickups. It is out of hand. I support a "Buy Back option for AR-15 and military style weapons. NO ONE is coming for our guns!
Yes a) Should the state government increase funding for treatment facilities to combat opioid abuse?
Yes b) Do you support Medicaid expansion through Wisconsin's health care programs?
Yes c) Do you support requiring individuals to purchase health care insurance?
Yes d) Do you support legislation that grants citizens the right to choose to die through euthanasia?
Yes e) Do you support eliminating religious exemptions for vaccinations?
Yes f) Do you support requiring businesses to provide paid medical leave during public health crises, such as COVID-19?
I support the legalization and use of medical cannabis to help addicts kick opioid abuse. It is a process that is working and should not be limited.
Yes a) Do you support the inclusion of sexual orientation in Wisconsin's anti-discrimination laws?
Yes b) Do you support the inclusion of gender identity in Wisconsin's anti-discrimination laws?
Yes c) Do you support greater efforts by Wisconsin state government in closing the pay gap between men and women?
Yes d) Do you support expanding anti-discrimination laws to include hair textures and protective hairstyles?
e) Other or expanded principles:
In 2021 the state will have to make many changes to combat the devastating fiscal, emotional and workforce effects of Covid-19. I pledge to proceed with CARE, Consistency and Diligence to forge the next steps to find a 'new reality' that is achievable and prosperous for all in Western Wisconsin. Additionally I want to create a Lyme's Awareness campaign to highlight the dangers of this additional pandemic in our state that has been ignored for too long with disastrous results for many citizens.
In 2021 the new 2 year budget will be the focus for months, that along with Covid and redistricting are paramount. Creating fair maps using the Iowa method is the most timely and cost effective manner to accomplish redistricting. WE all know that tax revenues will be down and must brace for the reality of people and business being in crisis. It will mean tightening the belt everywhere but it is obvious that we must expand reliable broadband to support education and telehealth in our state. A lot of funding has been allocated, where is it?
