Mike Simpfenderfer has provided voters with clear stances on key issues by responding to the 2018 Political Courage Test.
| Pro-life | a) Do you generally support pro-choice or pro-life legislation? | ||
| Yes | b) Should abortion be legal when the pregnancy resulted from incest or rape? | ||
| Yes | c) Do you support the prohibition of public funds for organizations that perform abortions? | ||
| My younger sister was drugged and raped by two so called high school classmates. She held her secret for 30 years then shattered her silence. She got a STD and out of fear-shame she never had children. The state should not be in the abortion business. | |||
1) Budget Stabilization:Indicate which proposals you support (if any) for balancing California's budget.
| Yes | a) Reducing state employee salaries AND/OR pensions? | ||
| Yes | b) Instituting mandatory furloughs AND/OR layoffs for state employees? | ||
| Yes | c) Reducing benefits for Medicaid recipients? | ||
| No | d) An income tax increase on any tax bracket? | ||
| A budget not balanced has to have equal shared sacrifices with elected officials taking a larger than normal pay cut/reduction of benefits. We are not under taxed. We are over taxed. We have a spending problem that prevents the focus on our core responsibilities. No one has successfully taxed the rich into prosperity. | |||
| Yes | a) Do you support any limits on campaign contributions to state candidates? | ||
| Yes | b) Do you support the regulation of indirect campaign contributions from corporations and unions? | ||
| Yes | c) Do you support the use of an independent AND/OR bipartisan commission for redistricting? | ||
| Yes | d) Do you support requiring a government-issued photo identification in order to vote at the polls? | ||
| No | e) Do you support repealing California's nonpartisan blanket primary election system? | ||
| For seniors 62 or older/those who receive SSI/those who get EBT-SNAP benefits should get a government issued photo ID free of charge. Our voter rolls are a joke. They need to be audited. Honest elections should matter. | |||
| Yes | a) Do you support capital punishment for certain crimes? | ||
| No | b) Do you support the legalization of marijuana for recreational purposes? | ||
| Yes | c) Should a minor accused of a violent crime be prosecuted as an adult? | ||
| No | d) Do you support the enforcement of federal immigration laws by state and local police? | ||
| Local-state police should help when asked/requested. It is time criminals no longer freely operate in our neighborhoods. The focus needs to be on neighborhood safety. We need to be the priority not the criminals. | |||
| Yes | a) Do you support state government spending as a means of promoting economic growth? | ||
| Yes | b) Do you support lowering state taxes as a means of promoting economic growth? | ||
| Yes | c) Do you support reducing state government regulations on the private sector? | ||
| No | d) Do you support expanding access to unemployment benefits? | ||
| Yes | e) Do you support requiring welfare applicants to pass a drug test in order to receive benefits? | ||
| Yes | f) Do you support an increase of the minimum wage of California? | ||
| Yes | g) Do you support expanding state public housing programs? | ||
| State public housing needs to be focused on those disabled-receiving SSI-our veterans. Companies who fail to provide decent wages and benefits should be liable for the costs of their employees going on welfare. No more welfare cheats--that includes companies. If someone receives benefits-welfare from the county/state...no drugs. We need to stop making excuses for poor-bad behaviors and hold people accountable. | |||
| Yes | a) Do you support adopting federal education standards in California? | ||
| Yes | b) Do you support state funding for charter schools? | ||
| Yes | c) Should immigrants unlawfully present in the United States who graduate from California high schools be eligible for in-state tuition at public universities? | ||
| Illegal immigrants graduating high school should have a path to a renewable work permit if their university work will serve under-served-in need of careers/jobs or highly skilled jobs so we stop-eliminate-reduce the need for H1B visas. | |||
| No | a) Do you support state funding for the development of renewable energy (e.g. solar, wind, thermal)? | ||
| No | b) Do you support state government regulations of greenhouse gas emissions? | ||
| Yes | c) Do you support increasing state funding for clean drinking water initiatives? | ||
| No | d) Do you support permanent statewide water usage restrictions? | ||
| Tax breaks for companies doing the research is the way to go. If we are serious, then provide $4,000 grants from HUD funds to those living in HUD targeted census tracts for hot water heater replacement and toilet replacement and are low income seniors/disabled. Any water agency that fails to deliver clean water like we saw in Compton or Flint MI needs to face criminal accountability. | |||
| No | a) Do you generally support gun-control legislation? | ||
| No | b) Should background checks be required on gun sales between private citizens at gun shows? | ||
| Yes | c) Should teachers be allowed to bring guns into the classroom? | ||
| No | d) Should a license be required for gun ownership? | ||
| Leave law abiding citizens alone. Get the criminals off the streets who are the ones illegally dealing in guns. If gun control laws worked, Chicago would be pleasant instead of a high murder/high gun violence city. Teachers willing to go through training and certification should be armed. Criminals need to fear law abiding citizens not the other way around like it is now. People who attended classes/obtained certification should be rewarded-praised not humiliated. Private individuals selling more than 12 guns a year is a business, not a hobby. | |||
| No | a) Should the state government increase funding for treatment facilities to combat opioid abuse? | ||
| No | b) Do you support Medicaid expansion through California's health care programs? | ||
| No | c) Do you support requiring individuals to purchase health care insurance? | ||
| Yes | d) Do you support legislation that grants citizens the right to choose to die through euthanasia? | ||
| No | e) Do you support eliminating religious exemptions for vaccinations? | ||
| If people refuse to purchase health insurance, do not always expect help through the bankruptcy laws. Maximum law enforcement against those distributing illegal drugs is where the money needs to go. Go after the assets of drug dealers with lengthy claw back periods. Right to die is for those terminally ill and with the input from family-religious leaders. | |||
| No | a) Do you support the inclusion of sexual orientation in California's anti-discrimination laws? | ||
| No | b) Do you support the inclusion of gender identity in California's anti-discrimination laws? | ||
| Yes | c) Do you support greater efforts by California state government in closing the pay gap between men and women? | ||
| No | d) Do you support California's "Sanctuary State" immigration policies? | ||
| Sanctuary state helped no one become a legal resident or citizen. It is all politics and no help. We need to help people become US Citizens and obtain legal status with the existing laws. Equal treatment and safety from violence is for everyone not some. Closing pay gaps occurs when we publicize who abuses this. Reward companies with good behaviors and punish those who have bad behaviors. | |||
| End the non stop embarrassment we suffered in the 58th AD. Focus on well paying job creation and changing empty commercial lots into mixed use zoning so we build moderate priced homes w/ a set aside for low income. Solve the Exide Vernon poisoning once and for all instead of talk, talk, talk. Focus on safe neighborhoods and supporting law enforcement keeping us safe. Ensure young adults know all the careers available in our ever changing economy. Time for a change in the 58th AD. We deserve better. |
