Women often face obstacles to obtaining basic birth control, whether because of intentional regulatory barriers or a lack of reproductive education. We must ensure that birth control of all varieties remains available at no cost to women so they can control their reproduction in the way that works best for them. We must increase education so that women are aware of all their options. | |||

| We must rebalance our tax code so those at the very top pay their fair share. This is most effectively done with raising tax rates with increasing income and eliminating the carried interest exemption. A high tax on the top .1% of incomes will not harm our country, it will put money back into the hands of workers where it can be spent. This must be coupled with a reduction in defense spending. The military industrial complex has become the tail that wags the dog, and it must be pared down. | |||

| We must overturn the Citizens United ruling through legislation and bring transparency back to our electoral system. Big money interests control nearly every aspect of campaigns, and through indirect spending via SuperPACs they can keep their donors secret. The American people deserve a transparent election system where ideas and policy matter more than bank accounts. Corporations are not human and should be subject to strict scrutiny in their contributions to campaigns. The recent revelations about Facebook?s role in 2016 show what can happen with unlimited campaign spending, and we cannot afford to repeat those mistakes. | |||

| Federal spending is essential for economic growth during a recession. Moreover, federal spending brings an economic return to local economies and communities. $100 of SNAP spending generates $170 in economic activity, driving local economies and helping people out of poverty. We need federal investment to update our power grid, sanitation, and internet infrastructure. This will bring jobs and economic improvement. Lowering corporate taxes do the opposite. Through loopholes, many corporations pay zero federal taxes. These corporate subsidies must end if we are to bring fairness to our economy and ensure continued growth. | |||

| Local communities remain the best place for education regulation, but the Federal government has a role in setting the desired goals. Our economy and our lives are increasingly national, and economic mobility requires that an education from Arkansas prepares you just as well as an education from Georgia. We cannot focus on test taking; we must be willing to send funding to struggling schools, helping them improve the educational opportunities for their students. We must expand funding for school meals and after school care, ensuring every student is prepared and able to reach their potential. | |||

| We need to invest in renewable energy, recommit to the Paris Accords, and commit ourselves to leading the clean energy future. Step one of that is having the courage to enact a carbon tax. This financial incentive for companies to become more sustainable and more responsible is the most effective method. We have a moral obligation to regulate and reduce pollutants in our natural resources and enacting a carbon tax is a necessary step. | |||

| I am a gun owner, a military weapons instructor, and an expert marksman with the US Marine Corps. The largest difference between the Marines and civilian weapons rules is a culture of responsibility. We should take the military model of training, education, safety, and responsibility and apply it to civilian weapons. Before taking a weapon home, a purchaser must be certified in its safe handling, usage, and storage. We must improve our mental health care and remove the stigma of treatment in order to lower our suicide rate. We must take steps to stop our weapons violence epidemic. | |||

Our entrepreneurial spirit will drive improvements in our economy as workers are no longer tied to their job for health coverage. Health care is vital to everyone in this country, and it must be universally affordable, usable, and available. | |||

My family immigrated in search of a better life, and I will not stop other families from doing the same. We must reform our immigration policy so that those who seek to come here can gain citizenship in fewer than five years, and so that those who contribute to our country can have a path to citizenship without destroying the life they are building for themselves and their children. | |||

| Marijuana should be legal for recreational and medicinal use. States that have enacted this policy have seen economic benefits as well as societal ones. We should embrace this on the national level by rescheduling marijuana. This will also help end the disastrous war on drugs that disproportionately incarcerates young men of color, ruining lives before they have a chance to begin. Marijuana should be just as legal as alcohol, and the benefits of legalization far outweigh the risks. | |||

| Preemptive strikes on nuclear facilities only delay the inevitable. Instead of looking for opportunities for violence, we should look to strengthen our ties to other countries. The middle east is a prime example of the limits of military strikes. Through decades of war we have done our enemies? work for them, weakening our economy and needlessly spending the lives of our armed service members. If we are to regain our place of leadership in the world, we must recommit ourselves to peace, bring our troops home, and focus on diplomatic solutions rather than military ones. | |||
| We must strengthen our economy by raising the minimum wage to $15 an hour and indexing it to inflation, as well as investing in infrastructure projects. This will be paid for by increasing taxes on those with outsized incomes, ending the carried interest exemption, closing corporate tax loopholes, and enacting a carbon tax on our worst polluters. We must strengthen the Affordable Care Act with a Medicare buy-in. This pays for itself through premiums. These two policies will strengthen our country and lay the foundation to lead the world into the next century and beyond. |
