Jennifer Christie has provided voters with clear stances on key issues by responding to the 2020 Political Courage Test.
| Yes | In order to balance the budget, do you support an income tax increase on any tax bracket? | ||
| Yes | Do you support expanding federal funding to support entitlement programs such as Social Security and Medicare? | ||
| I support implementing a wealth tax on incomes over $50Million. I do not support raising taxes on working middle class families. Social Security and Medicare are not "entitlement programs." These are important services paid for by you and me through our taxes and hard work. I support fully funding Social Security and Medicare as they are essential to most Americans and have made our country better. Furthermore, I support expanding Medicare to provide universal healthcare for all. | |||
| Yes | Do you support the regulation of indirect campaign contributions from corporations and unions? | ||
| The Citizens United decision is one of the greatest threats to our Democracy and our future because corporations can drown out your voice by simply spending unlimited amounts on propaganda in favor of their chosen politician. Corporations are not people, and we need to end the corporate financing of campaigns so that our government can work for the people. | |||
| No | Do you support increasing defense spending? | ||
| We already spend far more on defense than any other budget category. We need to be investing in solving the climate crisis and health care for all. The climate crisis and health care are national security issues. I support reallocating funds from the defense budget to solve the climate crisis and to better prepare for crises such as natural disasters and pandemics. | |||
| Yes | Do you support federal spending as a means of promoting economic growth? | ||
| No | Do you support lowering corporate taxes as a means of promoting economic growth? | ||
| The best thing we can do for the economy is solve the climate crisis. Solving the climate crisis will create tens of millions of good jobs and save the planet at the same time. I support investing in American workers and innovation. Wealth does not trickle down, it rises up. | |||
| No | Do you support requiring states to adopt federal education standards? | ||
| America benefits when we invest in students and teachers. It's time we treat teachers like the professionals that they are. Our world-class educators have much to offer if we let them lead. We should be investing in public schools without tying funding to test scores. While having goals is important, you must have the right metric. I support eliminating federal requirements for standardized testing. | |||
| Yes | Do you support government funding for the development of renewable energy (e.g. solar, wind, geo-thermal)? | ||
| Yes | Do you support the federal regulation of greenhouse gas emissions? | ||
| I have released a Climate agenda on my website that details actions to help us achieve net zero emissions by 2050. These actions include: -Passing a Green New Deal -Ending Fossil Fuel subsidies -Implementing a Carbon fee -Paying farmers to reforest America & implement best practices -Investing in innovation, labor projects, and green infrastructure -Ending fracking and drilling on public lands -Transitioning to Zero Emission Vehicles and transportation | |||
| Yes | Do you generally support gun-control legislation? | ||
| I support common-sense gun safety legislation such as universal background checks, consistent safe storage requirements, and banning military-style assault weapons in civilian settings. | |||
| No | Do you support repealing the 2010 Affordable Care Act ("Obamacare")? | ||
| I support replacing it with Medicare For All. | |||
| No | Do you support the construction of a wall along the Mexican border? | ||
| No | Do you support requiring immigrants who are unlawfully present to return to their country of origin before they are eligible for citizenship? | ||
|
|||
| There are many people who were brought to America as babies and children and know no other home. These are our DACA recipients who know no other other country so "deporting" them is not humane, especially for countries that are experiencing civil unrest. We do need comprehensive immigration reform, but deportation is not the only tool. | |||
| It is imperative that we solve the climate crisis, guarantee healthcare for all, and implement a fair and progressive tax structure that works for working people. To fund these, I support ending fossil fuel subsidies, implementing a 2-4% wealth tax for ultra-millionaires, a carbon fee, a Green New Deal, and reallocating parts of the budget to focus on these existential and critical issues. Climate action, universal health care, and a progressive tax structure will all also boost and strengthen our economy. |
