| As a business owner, I believe in the phrase that one cannot "cut their way to prosperity". | |||
| Through my education, and experiences working with at-risk populations, as well as successful populations, I know that people need increased stability, increased fulfillment opportunities, and decreased stress levels to achieve financial and social independence. If we don't want to pay for future generations who have no self-esteem and no work ethic to sit at home, we need to invest in our working poor populations by increasing their wages, decreasing their stress, and thus, increasing the achievement levels. Only then will we see decreased poverty, crime, and child abuse. And thus, decreased welfare expense. | |||
| 8 to 10 years of continued tax cuts and rebates have crippled our state's ability to perform it's core functions proficiently. For this reason, I will advocate minimizing waste and pork in current appropriated budget items, but I will also advocate increasing our revenue to help us perform at or better than our regional competitors in more metrics than incarceration rate. | |||

| I do not believe that our education system is broken. I will concede that it is "bent", but is well within tolerance to be improved upon, funded well, and supported so that it thrives. The data shows that when our "neighbors" do better, (health, education, jobs, happiness) we do better. The primary way to improve one's quality of life is to provide for a rigorous education, and minimize deterrents to pursuing higher education. | |||

I think with medical marijuana, we have already begun to move that direction by allowing cannabis oil, and I think we are on the wrong side of history, and a moral imperative, if we continue to allow suffering that could be remedied by the use of marijuana. | |||

| My first priority will focus on balancing our state's budget without further cutting education, healthcare, mental health, transportation, and the department of human services. My next priority will be to actively pursue increased diversification of our state's economic drivers. Third, I will set out to bridge the gap between the political "left" and "right". Most of us have similar end goals, and a few key ideas on how to achieve those goals. The details need to be bipartisan, and they can be. It's time for a more reasonable Oklahoma legislature. |
