What is the Political Courage Test?

Nevada Congressional Election 2016 Political Courage Test

Pro-choice Do you generally support pro-choice or pro-life legislation?
I have always been pro-choice, but I would not allow my person feelings to influence my vote. Representatives are charged with voting the will of the district he or she represents. If the majority of constituents in CD3 asked me to vote for pro-life legislation this is how I would vote. As it stands, the majority of citizens in Clark County are in favor of pro-choice legislation.
No In order to balance the budget, do you support reducing defense spending?
Yes In order to balance the budget, do you support an income tax increase on any tax bracket?
I am for fair and equitable taxes for any tax bracket. I do not believe in overburdening tax payers. Rather than voting for tax increase I am in favor of ending temporary tax incentives that are still active.
Yes Do you support the regulation of indirect campaign contributions from corporations and unions?
PACs and super PACs have entirely too much influence over elections. These organizations should adhere to FEC regulations that candidates must adhere to.
Yes Do you support capital punishment for certain crimes?
Yes Do you support alternatives to incarceration for certain non-violent offenders such as mandatory counseling or substance abuse treatment?
No Do you support mandatory minimum sentences for non-violent drug offenders?
All punishment should fit the crime. Drug offenders who have unregistered weapons may not have committed a violent crime, but the fact they own weapons is cause for punishment.
Yes Do you support federal spending as a means of promoting economic growth?
Yes Do you support lowering taxes as a means of promoting economic growth?
Yes Do you support providing tax incentives to businesses for the purpose of job creation?
I am open to discussing all options that will benefit the economy, job creation while being fiscally responsible.
No Do you support requiring states to implement education reforms in order to be eligible for competitive federal grants?
Placing further requirements on federal grants for education is counter productive. If a state is scoring low on education taking money away does not benefit the children in that state. Federal audits and consulting engagements may be a better solution.
No Do you support building the Keystone XL pipeline?
Yes Do you support funding for the development of renewable energy (e.g. solar, wind, thermal)?
Yes Do you support increased regulations on the hydraulic fracturing ("fracking") industry?
We will run out of fossil fuels in our children's lifetime. The time to develop renewable energy sources should have occurred decades ago. The environmental impact of continuing to burn fossil fuels, and fracking cannot be adequately measured. Foreign dependency on oil continues to make the United States vulnerable. Nevada can create thousands of solar and wind jobs.
Yes Do you believe that human activity is contributing to climate change?
Yes Do you support the federal regulation of greenhouse gas emissions?
see above
Yes Do you generally support gun-control legislation?
The citizens of Clark County Nevada support background checks on all weapon sales. The citizens of the United States support this. This is how I would vote.
Yes Do you support repealing the 2010 Affordable Care Act ("Obamacare")?
Yes, but the majority of citizens are of the opinion it needs adjustments and fixes. I am open to working with all House members to fine tune this legislation.
No Do you support requiring illegal immigrants to return to their country of origin before they are eligible for citizenship?
The majority of Americans, and Clark County citizens support providing a path to citizenship for illegal immigrants.
Yes Do you support same-sex marriage?
I am a firm supporter of all LGBT legislation that provides for equal treatment under the law.
Yes Do you support targeting suspected terrorists outside of official theaters of conflict?
No Should the U.S use military force in order to prevent governments hostile to the United States from possessing a nuclear weapon?
One of the top threats to the United States is terrorist activity. Terrorist organizations are responsible for tens of thousands of murders world wide. Millions of human beings are touched by the oppression and fear of terrorists. I am firm in my belief that we need to collaborate with all nations to fight and defeat all terrorist organizations.
Yes Do you support allowing individuals to divert a portion of their Social Security taxes into personal retirement accounts?
