Pro-choice Do you generally support pro-choice or pro-life legislation?
The reproductive rights of women should be expanded and protected.
Yes In order to balance the budget, do you support reducing defense spending?
Yes In order to balance the budget, do you support an income tax increase on any tax bracket?
I oppose military spending on military equipment that the Pentagon says it does not want. I cannot support continued F-35 funding now at record levels.
Yes Do you support the regulation of indirect campaign contributions from corporations and unions?
I disagree with the Supreme Court's Citizen United decision and will support regulation of campaign contributions from wealthy individuals, corporations, unions, and independent expenditure committees.
No Do you support capital punishment for certain crimes?
Yes Do you support alternatives to incarceration for certain non-violent offenders such as mandatory counseling or substance abuse treatment?
No Do you support mandatory minimum sentences for non-violent drug offenders?
Sentencing should be left up to the discretion of the judical branch
Yes Do you support federal spending as a means of promoting economic growth?
Yes Do you support lowering taxes as a means of promoting economic growth?
Yes Do you support providing tax incentives to businesses for the purpose of job creation?
Remove the burden of subsidizing out Health Insurance from our Employers. Shift the responsibility back to a single payer healthcare system.
Yes Do you generally support requiring states to adopt federal education standards?
Federal standards are important to ensure some movement towards quality education and the distribution of funds to public schools in areas plagued by poverty.
No Do you support building the Keystone XL pipeline?
Yes Do you support government funding for the development of renewable energy (e.g. solar, wind, thermal)?
Yes Do you support increased regulations on the hydraulic fracturing ("fracking") industry?
The fracking industry uses large quantities of water that can then become contaminated. It also causes site pollution with heavy metals that are now unregulated. It is unsuitable industry in populated areas, near watersheds and rivers, and in states experiencing drought.
Yes Do you believe that human activity is contributing to climate change?
Yes Do you support the federal regulation of greenhouse gas emissions?
I will create jobs to adress the effects of climate change, including water reclamation projects and burying the power lines in our District.
Yes Do you generally support gun-control legislation?
I support common sense-sense legislation such as universal background checks, a ban on assault weapons, and smart gun technology so that only an authorized user can fire a weapon to insure that children are not killed or injured if they "find" or handle a weapon.
No Do you support repealing the 2010 Affordable Care Act ("Obamacare")?
I also support government negotiations with pharmaceutical companies to lower drug prices.
No Do you support requiring immigrants who are unlawfully present to return to their country of origin before they are eligible for citizenship?
The US needs a fair and humane immigration policy. Those who are undocumented should be able to pursue US citizenship, under certain conditions, without the added cost of returning to the country of origin.
Yes Do you support same-sex marriage?
No Do you support increased American intervention in Iraq and Syria beyond air support?
No Should the U.S use military force in order to prevent governments hostile to the United States from possessing a nuclear weapon?
I do support the establishment of no fly zones to control rebel groups and safe corridors in Iraq and Syria to be used for food and pharmaceutical deliveries and for movement of refugees who want to leave the war zone. The US can use its significant diplomatic skills and position of global leadership to prevent additional countries from gaining nuclear weapons. Sanctions also are another tool.
No Do you support allowing individuals to divert a portion of their Social Security taxes into personal retirement accounts?
I do not support the privatization of social security.

1 Infrastructure
If elected, I will support additional funding for infrastructure. New green energy projects are sorely needed to address globalize climate change. Infrastructure repairs are needed regarding US roads, bridges, and water treatment plants, among others. A second priority will be to move the Affordable Care Act towards a single payer system, a move that experts say will save $500 billion in health care costs. The national government must also enter into negotiations with pharmaceuticals to lower prescription drug costs. Billions of dollars are spent on military projects that the military itself does not want; these funds can be shifted.

Vote Smart does not permit the use of its name or programs in any campaign activity, including advertising, debates, and speeches.
