Pro-choice Do you generally support pro-choice or pro-life legislation?
Health care should be a right and it's denial should be criminal, not the reproductive related needs of women, whether they be for birthing or for abortion. And, the decisions for women's health should be made by governmental bodies led by women who represent the majority views of women.
Yes In order to balance the budget, do you support an income tax increase on any tax bracket?
Yes In order to balance the budget, do you support reducing defense spending?
The tax burden should be turned upside down. Currently the burden falls on working people when it should fall on the 1% and less than 1%. The people who create the wealth of society, workers, are already exploited enough under capitalism. Regarding the military budget - all U.S. wars should end now, which would save millions of lives and free up trillions of dollars that could be used to provide free education and health care immediately and provide the funds to seriously combat global warming.
Yes Do you support the regulation of indirect campaign contributions from corporations and unions?
Corporations should not be allowed to contribute. Unions represent working and poor people's interests and should be allowed to contribute as much as their rank and file members desire.
Yes Do you support federal spending as a means of promoting economic growth?
No Do you support lowering corporate taxes as a means of promoting economic growth?
It's been proven time and again that lowering corporate taxes does not promote economic health.
Yes Do you support requiring states to adopt federal education standards?
And, education is a right that should be funded from k to university - for free using the monies wasted on U.S. war and the military industrial complex. In addition, teachers should receive a living wage and excellent benefits since they are teaching our future leaders and providing the gift of knowledge and shared human experience.
Yes Do you support government funding for the development of renewable energy (e.g. solar, wind, thermal)?
Yes Do you support the federal regulation of greenhouse gas emissions?
Life on this planet is under a real and immediate threat, both from global warming and U.S. wars. Both need to be stopped and the ending of global warming depends on the necessary funds that would come from what is now spent on U.S. war and filling the pockets of the military industrial complex which, like the Democrats and Republicans, see war as a business opportunity for Lockheed, General Dynamic, Boeing and more. This, however, will not change until the people can wrestle the power from the industrial and financial monopolies that run this country, whom the two parties represent.
Yes Do you generally support gun-control legislation?
Like any hazardous materials safe handling is regulated. However, that must include guns that are in the hands of racist police who have proven time and again to be one of the most dangerous killers of Black and Brown youth due to racist organizations within their departments. Police represent the ruling class, the industrial and financial monopolies that run this country - and will protect only their property and profits. Legislation should allow communities of Black and Brown peoples to defend themselves by creating their own police force and stripping the existing police force from their arms and resources.
No Do you support repealing the 2010 Affordable Care Act ("Obamacare")?
Health care should also be expanded to Single Payer healthcare immediately and finally to non-privatized free and public healthcare and access for all.
No Do you support the construction of a wall along the Mexican border?
No Do you support requiring immigrants who are unlawfully present to return to their country of origin before they are eligible for citizenship?
Not only should DACA students be given full legalization, but so should the 11 million undocumented in this country. Migrants, who are here escaping U.S. wars and the economic destabilization of their countries, pay taxes and are super exploited, yet receive no social benefits. Their terror must end.
Yes Do you support the legalization of marijuana for recreational purposes?
No Should the United States use military force in order to prevent governments hostile to the U.S. from possessing a nuclear weapon?
No Do you support increased American intervention in Middle Eastern conflicts beyond air support?
The biggest threat to humanity is not the "hostile" governments who are in fact targets of U.S. imperialism's attempts at "regime" change for the purpose of exploiting their resources and denial of self determination. The biggest threat to humanity is U.S. imperialist wars that promote a non-peaceful world, a worldwide refugee crisis and are now responsible for the horrific prospects of the people of Yemen, 8 million of whom are expected to starve to death due precisely because of U.S. war in cooperation with Saudi Arabia there.
1) Immediately declare a state of emergency in Black and Brown neighborhoods to address police murder with the initial step of ceasing the use of deadly force by police in communities where a majority of residents are Black or Latinx and stop deportations by ICE. 2) Call for an immediate cessation of U.S. wars and proxy wars and divert the funding to vital social programs like health care, housing, job creation and education and for use in programs to reverse environmental damage. 3) Institute a referendum calling for the conversion of privately owned vital industry into public ownership

Vote Smart does not permit the use of its name or programs in any campaign activity, including advertising, debates, and speeches.
