What is the Political Courage Test?

Ohio State Legislative Election 2018 Political Courage Test

Pro-choice a) Do you generally support pro-choice or pro-life legislation?
Yes b) Should abortion be legal when the pregnancy resulted from incest or rape?
No c) Do you support the prohibition of public funds for organizations that perform abortions?
Abortion must be legally available to preserve the life of a woman and the welfare of her family. I believe it should be rare and could be if women from all sides of the question would come together and hammer out solutions. I also know that if abortions are made illegal, back alley abortions will still happen and often result in the death of desperate girls and women or the loss of fertility for future families.

1) Budget Stabilization:Indicate which proposals you support (if any) for balancing Ohio's budget.

No a) Reducing state employee salaries AND/OR pensions?
No b) Instituting mandatory furloughs AND/OR layoffs for state employees?
No c) Reducing benefits for Medicaid recipients?
No d) An income tax increase on any tax bracket?
There needs to be a return to fair corporate taxation. Many Ohio businesses are fabulously profitable and yet pay very low taxes (or none at all.)
Yes a) Do you support any limits on campaign contributions to state candidates?
Yes b) Do you support the regulation of indirect campaign contributions from corporations and unions?
Yes c) Do you support the use of an independent AND/OR bipartisan commission for redistricting?
No d) Do you support requiring a government-issued photo identification in order to vote at the polls?
There should be no requirement that impinges on the ability of an American citizen to vote. There has been almost no VOTER fraud, which has been wrongly implied recently, although there is much possibility of elections having problems. We need a good verification system, based on a paper trail.
No a) Do you support capital punishment for certain crimes?
Yes b) Do you support the legalization of marijuana for recreational purposes?
No c) Should a minor accused of a violent crime be prosecuted as an adult?
No d) Do you support the enforcement of federal immigration laws by state and local police?
Of course laws should be enforced, but promises such as were made to DACA Dreamers must also be kept. In general, immigration laws should be enforced by the appropriate specialists in the areas where immigration occurs.
Yes a) Do you support state government spending as a means of promoting economic growth?
No b) Do you support lowering state taxes as a means of promoting economic growth?
No c) Do you support reducing state government regulations on the private sector?
Yes d) Do you support expanding access to unemployment benefits?
No e) Do you support requiring welfare applicants to pass a drug test in order to receive benefits?
Yes f) Do you support an increase of the minimum wage of Ohio?
Yes g) Do you support matching the cost-of-living allowances to the Consumer Price Index (CPI) for the Ohio Public Employee Retirement System (OPERS)?
h) Other or expanded principles:
Yes a) Do you support adopting federal education standards in Ohio?
No b) Do you support state funding for charter schools?
Yes c) Should immigrants unlawfully present in the United States who graduate from Ohio high schools be eligible for in-state tuition at public universities?
Education issues should be decided by experts in the field of education. Teachers should have a say in how and what they teach. Much more funding needs to be returned to Ohio schools at all levels and the amount of testing needs to be greatly reduced. There also must be equality among all schools, regardless of the level of prosperity of their school districts.
Yes a) Do you support state funding for the development of renewable energy (e.g. solar, wind, thermal)?
Yes b) Do you support state government regulations of greenhouse gas emissions?
Yes c) Do you support increasing state funding for clean drinking water initiatives?
d) Other or expanded principles:
Yes a) Do you generally support gun-control legislation?
Yes b) Should background checks be required on gun sales between private citizens at gun shows?
No c) Should teachers be allowed to bring guns into the classroom?
Yes d) Should a license be required for gun ownership?
Guns should not be completely outlawed as they are part of our hunting and sport-shooting culture. I believe guns should be insured in the same way as are automobiles. There would then be financial protection for those who are harmed from crimes or accidents with guns. Insurance companies would provide market forces to determine who might not be the law-abiding gun owners we all want to have.
Yes a) Should the state government increase funding for treatment facilities to combat opioid abuse?
Yes b) Do you support Medicaid expansion through Ohio's health care programs?
Yes c) Do you support requiring individuals to purchase health care insurance?
Yes d) Do you support legislation that grants citizens the right to choose to die through euthanasia?
Yes e) Do you support eliminating religious exemptions for vaccinations?
No f) Should able-bodied citizens Medicaid recipients meet a work requirement to be eligible for benefits?
No g) Do you support repealing the state mandated Medicaid expansion?
h) Other or expanded principles:
Yes a) Do you support the inclusion of sexual orientation in Ohio's anti-discrimination laws?
Yes b) Do you support the inclusion of gender identity in Ohio's anti-discrimination laws?
Yes c) Do you support greater efforts by Ohio state government in closing the pay gap between men and women?
d) Other or expanded principles:
All Ohioans must have good affordable healthcare, preferably through Medicare for all, but in the meantime through the ACA and expanded Medicaid. Every child deserves the opportunity of a quality education that prepares them for a prosperous, fulfilling life. There need to be educational opportunities for adults who must add to or change their skills in order to have a job that pays a living wage. We could achieve all this much faster if we got big money out of politics. Because my opponent has big donors I can't match, I'm running a money-free campaign. Send me NO money.
