| Deregulation caused college tuition to increase, while State reduced financial aid allocations. This combination made college unaffordable for increasing number of middle class families. With respect to state jobs, I would make government more efficient by supporting elimination of redundant or obsolete agencies.Instead of reducing benefits for medicaid recipients,I would ensure that poor have access to jobs that offer a living wage, so they could eventually end dependence on public assistance. | |||
| State allocation for public schools steadily decreased, requiring local taxing entities to make up the difference through increased property taxes.I would increase state allocation for public schools so homeowners could get meaningful property tax relief. I would use some of the money from the rainy day fund to pay for it. I would provide more money to higher education in form of financial aid grants to help middle class families pay for tuition. I would claw back a portion of the $800 million the State allocated to Border Security last session to pay for it. | |||

| A government issued photo ID ensures that only eligible citizens vote. I believe that if we are going to impose eligibility rules for voting, then the State should have the means to enforce those rules. I don't support using govt photo IDs to disenfranchise eligible voters. So, the State should be monitoring the impact the law has had on eligible voters by investigating the reasons that provisional ballots, if any, were not counted, and adopt remedial measures to reduce the likelihood that eligible votes are not counted. | |||
