Oregon Congressional Election 2016 Political Courage Test

Pro-choice Do you generally support pro-choice or pro-life legislation?
Yes In order to balance the budget, do you support reducing defense spending?
Yes In order to balance the budget, do you support an income tax increase on any tax bracket?
Increases on the upper tax brackets is acceptable, although the greater need is to work to eliminate the tax giveaways and loopholes that allow those on the upper income levels to pay a low effective tax rate.
Yes Do you support the regulation of indirect campaign contributions from corporations and unions?
Yes Do you support capital punishment for certain crimes?
Yes Do you support alternatives to incarceration for certain non-violent offenders such as mandatory counseling or substance abuse treatment?
No Do you support mandatory minimum sentences for non-violent drug offenders?
Crimes aren't one-size-fits-all. I believe we should give more judicial discretion in terms of levying sentences.
Yes Do you support federal spending as a means of promoting economic growth?
Yes Do you support lowering taxes as a means of promoting economic growth?
Yes Do you support providing tax incentives to businesses for the purpose of job creation?
I wouldn't take any of these options off the table, however if implemented, we would need to see what works, and what does not.
Yes Do you support requiring states to implement education reforms in order to be eligible for competitive federal grants?
No Do you support building the Keystone XL pipeline?
Yes Do you support funding for the development of renewable energy (e.g. solar, wind, thermal)?
Yes Do you support increased regulations on the hydraulic fracturing ("fracking") industry?
Yes Do you believe that human activity is contributing to climate change?
Yes Do you support the federal regulation of greenhouse gas emissions?
Climate change being caused by human activity is not a belief system, it is science.
Yes Do you generally support gun-control legislation?
No Do you support repealing the 2010 Affordable Care Act ("Obamacare")?
I would prefer that we have a single-payer/Medicare-for-All system. I also believe we should have had the Public Option as part as the ACA. It is clear that the ACA is better than the old system, but we have not gone far enough to ensure that people can receive proper health care.
No Do you support requiring illegal immigrants to return to their country of origin before they are eligible for citizenship?
Yes Do you support same-sex marriage?
Yes Do you support targeting suspected terrorists outside of official theaters of conflict?
Yes Should the U.S use military force in order to prevent governments hostile to the United States from possessing a nuclear weapon?
These options cannot be taken off the table.
Yes Do you support allowing individuals to divert a portion of their Social Security taxes into personal retirement accounts?

We need to look more deeply at the working class in this country. People that are working 40, 50, 60 hours a week and just getting by. We cannot look at them as "takers" as Paul Ryan classifies them. We must implement policies such as a higher minimum wage and better access to health care. We must decrease the loophole ridden tax code, which allows the very rich in these country to pay low effective tax rates.
