| State spending priorities should not be made based on the preferences of individual legislators. Spending decisions need to be made based on the needs of the State and the good of its people. It is difficult to look at this list and determine, without more information about current funds available, how funding should happen. All of the items on this list are probably underfunded and we have continued to ask our people to do more with less. | |||
| I believe that we need to take a comprehensive look at our taxing system. We need to determine, in a non-partisan manner, how we are going to address the State's income needs while having system of taxation that is fair. | |||
| I respect to the need to balance Idaho?s budget. I believe that we need to do so in a manner that is not across the backs of Idaho?s low and middle income families or on the backs of our most vulnerable citizens. | |||
a) Do you support limits on the following types of contributions for state candidates?

| Yes | d) Do you support the use of an independent AND/OR bipartisan commission for redistricting? | ||
| No | e) Do you support requiring a government-issued photo identification in order to vote at the polls? | ||
| f) Other or expanded principles: | |||
| Yes | a) Do you support capital punishment for certain crimes? | ||
| Yes | b) Do you support alternatives to incarceration for certain non-violent offenders, such as mandatory counseling or substance abuse treatment? | ||
| c) Do you support legalizing the possession of small amounts of marijuana? | |||

| e) Should a minor who sends sexually-explicit or nude photos by cell phone face criminal charges? | |||
| f) Do you support the enforcement of federal immigration laws by state and local police? | |||
| While I support capital punishment for some crimes I believe that there needs to be a higher burden of proof than currently exists for implementation. We are aware of far too many wrongfully convicted individuals to accept ?beyond a reasonable doubt? as the standard. We need to be cautious how minors are treated in the court system. Multiple variables including age and developmental factors must be taken into account when discussing the prosecution of minors. | |||

| f) Do you support the state government providing college students with financial aid? | |||
| g) Should illegal immigrants who graduate from Idaho high schools be eligible for in-state tuition at public universities? | |||
| Idaho has utilized core standards for years. I do support a merit pay system for teachers but, am cautious regarding how ?merit? is determined. Implemented appropriately tenure can produce effective teachers. Idaho provides free public education, if you wish your child to attend a private school make the financial commitment to do so. I you do not believe that a public school can do a good job in teaching your child, invest in your local school; volunteer, donate, participate. I believe that the State should to everything in its power to make higher education accessible to all. | |||

| My first priority is investing in education and improving outcomes for our students. Our economy is directly correlated to access to quality education and training programs. Incarceration rates also have a direct relationship to education. Education is also the single most effective way for individuals to get out of poverty. As a state we must also find ways to support and encourage sustainable economic growth. Finally, I will be the kind of legislator I want to be represented by. I will be a legislator who is willing to listen and willing to advocate for the District. |
