The so-called "Accountability Act" has cost our children to the tune of $1000 per classroom. We must make the same commitment to our educational system that was used to build the Crimson Tide and Tigers. This includes attracting and retaining the best education professionals and support staff, and providing them with the tools they get the job done. | |||
| We must eliminate the Grocery Tax. Alabama is one of only two states in the country that still has this tax. For every $100 per week a family spends on groceries they are paying $600 per year in tax. | |||
| Our state has a funding crisis. We need to address this on two fronts: First, we must take steps to bring financial security and buying-power back to the working middle class families - the people who comprise the majority of the state. Consumers drive our economy. Having a solid base will lead to more profits for business, spur job creation and increase revenue collection. Second, we must be willing to explore alternative sources of revenue. This includes letting the people of Alabama vote on a Lottery to supplement educational funding and pursuing a Tribal-State Compact with the Poarch Creek Indians. | |||
