K-12 education needs better funding, but it also needs a better method of attaching the funds to the child to ensure that whatever course a child's education takes, it is appropriately funded, rather than funding failing schools for parents that choose to homeschool their children. There is much more that can be done to encourage private investment in public schools, rather than asking the taxpayer to assume the full burden of educating all children. | Alcohol and cigarette taxes are designed to create medical insurance against the known costs of cancer, liver disease, and COPD linked to those products used. There could be better management of those funds to ensure they serve their purpose. Research supports standards developed with input from parents, teachers, administrators, curriculum specialists, and other stakeholders. The Common Core Standards were actually developed by 3-5 people with backing from State, Federal, and private interests and little-to-no review. The leading States signed on to Common Core before any standards were developed. | Unfortunately, I do not believe that anti-discrimination laws work they way the government and advocatees would like them to. My husband is totally blind. The ADA supposedly has been around to protect the disabled from work discrimination. What it really does is provide a list of words that a person cannot say when discriminating against a person. Laws do not control thoughts, only which actions result from those thoughts. What results is red tape and paperwork that scares employers into avoiding hiring anyone with protected status rather than risk a lawsuit. | |||
