| Spending in Washington is out of control. We have all seen the volatility and instability in Greece due to unsustainable spending and entitlements. Their problem will become our problem if we don't act now to balance the budget and reduce our national debt. I pledge to take on the special interests and crony capitalism currently wreaking havoc on our nation by proposing a return to 2006 spending levels, banning all earmarks, defunding programs that waste taxpayer money, and adopting smarter criteria to manage entitlement programs. We can and will restore fiscal discipline to Washington. | |||
| Our current tax system is complicated, intrusive, and retards economic growth. It penalizes production, driving up prices, and punishes workers, picking our pockets before we even receive our paychecks. Today, Americans spend a third of the year or more working not for themselves or their families, but to pay for the excesses of Washington bureaucrats. The result is unlimited expansion of the federal government. We need tax reform now. The FairTax will bring prosperity back to America by abolishing the IRS and taxing individuals on what they consume rather than what they make. For almost everyone, this means lower taxes. | |||

As a practicing M.D., I find this unacceptable, and I pledge to repeal this legislation. I will lead the charge to scrap this monstrosity and write new legislation that adheres to the free market principles this nation was founded on. | |||

I favor sanctions against regimes who thumb their nose at the international community, and our efforts in Iraq and Afghanistan as long as there is a clear, defined mission. A democratic Iraq and a democratic Afghanistan are the best insurance against future terror attacks. | |||
